the motor and tranny in my bird came out of a 87 camaro. since the bird already had a chebby motor in it before i got it, the motor sat right in and bolted down,no problem. BUT, i need a crossmember that will bolt ot the tranny and still fit over the frame. anyone have any ideas, as to a crossmember from another car that will work for me ? it is just sitting on top of my original 4spd crossmember now.
What kind of tranny is it? Have you looked at the TH-400 crossmember? It works with the 200-4R, maybe with the 700 as well. Mainly, it bends to clear the rear part of the pan where the governor and output shaft are located.
i might try the th400 one, just to see if it will work. i'm not gonna cut or weld the original. it will be laying right next to the tranny that came in the car, and the oh6 that was originally in the car before it was converted. i have to have an auto tranny, since i broke my back - i cant lift my left leg from a sitting position to get on a clutch.
Doesn't that trans have a transverse style mount? If it does you will need to weld an arm on a cross member. Pick any one that is the right width and weld the arm on. I'm not in favor of destroying original equipment either. Trying to tell you something that will work. Had this problem on a 70 Trans Am I bought that had a newer style trans in it bolted to a Chevy. It had a custom cross member. I wish I would have kept the cross member. I would gladly pass it on.
