Hi Guys, I hope someone can help. The date code under the distributor is either 1G18 or 161B or 1618. Its very hard to tell. Also were on the distributor is the part number and my distributor has a tube for oiling the shaft. Is that correct. Thanks for any and all help, Rick badx
The letters represent the month A=Jan B=Feb, etc... The last digit "8" would be for 68 the other numbers would be the day of the month. Now with your variations there (maybe i'm experiencing brain freeze now ) i cannot seem to come up with anything other than a 68' motor possibly one of the "1";s is an "I" the 6 could be a "G" I'm not 100% on this but i was always under the impression the first digit was the letter indicating the month, the second and third digits would be numbers representing the day of the month and the fourth would be the year. You will need to double check for accuracy.Hope this helps a bit.

The other possibility is that it was read up-side down. That would make it "B191," - February 19, 1971. What's the casting part number on the block just behind the passenger head?
Otherwise it could most likely be I 01 8, September 1, 1968. For that, it would be a 1969 motor.
Thanks Guys, I will investigate it better and get the casting number today. It has a YW code with the correct vin number so I must be reading it wrong. Thanks Rick
