I just started working on my 67 again and am working on the front suspension. The problem is that all the performance front drop springs are rated for either a small block Chevy or a big block Chevy and the Pontiac engine's weight is somewhere in the midle. So my question is which front spring should I use to give the poncho a 2 inch drop and the firm responsive ride of the performance springs? I feel that the small block springs will be too soft and the car will sit too low and wollow thru turns as stock springs do. But, I feel the big block springs will sit too high and if I were to cut them that the spring rate would be way too high for responsive handling, so what to use> Thanks in advance for any ideas.
I have the Hotchkis (sb) on mine to. It did lower it about 2 inches on my convertible. Unlike bastereo, I have the stock exhaust and don’t have any bottoming out problems. Also no problems with tires rubbing, but that’s due to it being a ’69. I also upgraded the front sway bar to 11/4 inch. Remember if you lower the front end you will have to shorten the sway bar end links.
I have Eibach springs on my car with a CHevy 350. They lowered the car about 3/4 an inch. I would think the additional weight of a Pontiac block would make the drop a bit more.
The spring rate is 500 and, coupled with poly T-bar bushings, the car turns very flat. My headers no longer fear railroad tracks or speedbumps.
Ok, thanks for the replys so far. I guess I should have stated that I run an iron intake and exhaust manifolds. The car is pretty stock looking but much better performer. So it looks like the big block springs might be the best?
I have the hotchkiss small block springs in my car, but I recommend you get the hotchkiss big block springs. It looks pretty slammed with the small block springs, as you can see from my photo.
