Scott Tiemann-Supercar Specialties in Portland which is just northwest of Lansing,is by far the best resto shop around Mi,with most resto's costing around $80,000.These car's are perfect
For $80K I'm glad you didn't say these cars are almost perfect ... I don't care how many different ways the owners of this shop might try to justify it, but $80K is a ridiculous price for a "typical" muscle car restoration.
Yes Doug , I dont see too many forebird owners spending 80 K on a restoration... I`m sure thats a good job, but you need to come up w/ a shop that has better pricing for us 'po-folks' w 'birds' , that shop is for Duesenburgs or such...? Bjorn
Well to be honest I'm not really sure of his average resto cost that price was something I heard but I do know that he does'nt advertise and last year he had a 2 year waiting list I was there once he had swiss cheese catalina frame on the frame rack that was something he also had a car there that he was working on it was painted black boy did shine like mirror I ask him how he got it that shiny he replied we have about 40 hours into wet sanding.
If my bird was'nt already done and I had the money I would not hestitate this man does sweet work.I was lucky my uncle was a body man and did my car for me.
$80K seems high if you now have a car worth $25K. I have a friend who paid under $40K for completely redone, frame off restorations on a 69 Z-28 Camaro and a 70 454 Chevelle, both cars are perfect and consistent show winners. On the other hand, I also have a 72 DeTomaso Pantera GTS that the former owner invetsed over $70K and sold for $35K. I guess you get what you pay for but won't get your money out of it.
Just looking for a good shop that won't jack me around, and will do a complete paint job without ripping me off. Sorry boys, but I'm not after an $80,000 paint job, just clean up a little rust and make it 'mine.' Tim
I used B & B collision in Royal Oak to have the frame rails and trunk floor replaced.
Took a while, they do mostly insurance work with resto as a side line, but it came out nice & straight with only a seam across the front of the trunk to show a repair.
Just got it back this past weekend, now it needs some going through as it's been sitting for about seven years before I bought it.
Bob Biggs is a dedicated first gen. Camaro guy so he can surely repair first gen. Firebirds.
He does restorations, late model insurance repair and does quite a bit of work for Hagerty on all types of muscle cars. I am usually there at least once a month and he always has several neat cars he is working on.

Give Bob a call or go by and check out his new facility - you will be impressed.
Bob Biggs has done 3 vehicles of mine. He has a new building that just opened. He does beautiful work and I recommend him. He does camaros of his own. He has his 69 camaro z in the front showroom to see the work that they do.
Volume discounts. Will quote pricing based on parts requested. I plan on charging around $100 for a hood or fender (inner and outer), $500 for a back half (doors, quarters, trunk I/O, roof, underside, gas tank) $800 for a complete car inside and out. No warpage of metal, surface is completely free of paint, primer and filler and ready for prep and prime.
Should be up and running by mid March.

McQuire Chevy dealership here in Clare, MI does some fine work. They have done a few 65-67 GTO's for the owner of the dealership. They also did a mostly stock resto on a 70 nova ss for $22K. That included engine, trans, interior, etc. I was told that my 68 convert bird would be around $5K without seeing the car! But I can't swing that kind of cash right know.
My son will finish my bird before I do,(he's 3 yr's old)!!
Sam's Paint Shoppe in Shelby Township is a small shop that primarily does collision work, but they have a passion for painting old cars. The finished job equals or betters one at twice the price, average for base/clear on a clean body runs about $5,000.
They also do frame straightening, panel replacement, dent repair, and paint prep.

I will vouch for Sam's, I just got my car back last night and they did a great job. Like Vikki said they really enjoy working on classics, not to mention displaying them out front when they are finished. They had my car out front yesterday and Sam said 3 people stopped and asked if it was for sale.
I saw a Scott Tiemann restoration 1970 GTO Judge a few weeks ago. The guy said he had over 200K into the restoration. Needless to say he came on a trailer to the show.
