I am installing a new repo engine harness in my 69 bird with a 350 2brl.I have a line that according to the wiring diagram is for a idle stop solenoid.problem is i can't find it.should a 350 2brl have one? or should i dress the wire out of the way?

The general rule seem to be that the a/c equipped cars had the idle stop solenoid. They are pretty hard to come by these days, saw a NOS one sell for $200-something last week on eBay. Here's one that should fit (need different bracket for a 2bbl though).

Engine would probably work fine without it (mine does).

At least on my car, it engages when power is on to set the idle. When off, it allows the carb to close completely to prevent runon and deiseling.

I bought one from AMES a few years back for my ohc bird. I believe it was a V8 solenoid but I don't think they make them anymore. Like most things you might have to resort to epay if you want it correct.

thanks for all the info.after some further reading in my pontiac service manual i found out they were used on 6 cylinder and ram air engines.it goes on to say that if you don't use the wire then dress it out of the way.

My Dad had a 1969 LeMans with a 350 2-barrell engine, and it did not have a solenoid.

I believe all 68 V-8's had one, and the 69 Ram Air engines and 6 cylinder apparently, as you said.
