Has anyone ever installed a T-10 into a 1st gen? It fits like it was made for it. The only problem is the shifter and linkage. Can I use the 67-68 hurst offset shifter (which fits the car) instead of the original stock hurst T-10 shifter which has no offset? It seems like that's all it needs to fit. Also what about linkage?... Or should I pull it out and throw in a muncie? All coments welcome. D.
I haven`t yet,but I do have a T-10 to replace the piece of S**T Saginaw 4 speed that I have now.The tranny that I have was in a 69 Bird before,so I bought a new Muncie shifter to replace the worn out original.
THE PART NUMBER FOR THE HURST COMPETITION PLUS SHIFTER IS 391-4339. THE PART NUMBER FOR THE INSTALLATION KIT IS 373-8611. (IT IS SUPPOSED TO CLEAR YOUR CONSOLE). C.J.
DC- I installed a 79 super t in a auto 69 ragtop some years ago. I just rebuilt a muncie and since the clutch needs replaced im gonna install this. The major differnce is the yoke on the drive is gonna be different, the splines on the clutch is different. Ya gotta use the offset shifter to clear the console, if no console you can use either shifter however it bolts to the transmission with different 'adapters'I used a super street- stock even a shifter out of a goat they all worked-but and this is a big but the clearance of 'some' linkage to the floor tunnel is tight. If ya dont want to saw or Bang with a big hammer, stay with stock everything. To sum it up, it will work, its not all to radical and the difference is in the details. Good Luck- MIK
