Was the temperature sending unit installed with one wire or two? I have a 1969 firebird that had a 350 with a temp light. My buddy got me a temp sender with two wires. I found the old green wire that is supposed to go to the sender according to the book, but is there another wire and where would it go? Any ideas? I have after market gauges but would like the light to work as a backup. Thanks Ron Hein

I think your buddy sent you the wrong piece, but I'm a '68 guy.
The basic sending unit on the intake manifold is a one-wire deal for a guage temp reading. I suppose its possible the idiot light was different, but I don't think so. Wiring diagrams I have only show a one-wire connection for the 68.

I don't think they make the right piece any more. It should be a blade type with one wire. Two wires came in later years (Im not sure when). Now they sell the post type as a replacement. I modified the connector with a dremel tool and it works find. Be sure and ask the sending unit temp. I think it should be 180 deg. ....anyone else know what temp. they should be.
I bought a single wire for mine at a local parts house when I got the car. It came with a sender for a guage, and the temp light would stay dimly lit all the time. There was a selection of temperature, not sure I got the right one but I opted for the lower value of whatever they had.
Thanks for the answers. I picked up an ames catalog and the replacement was a two spade connector. They had a required call for the original single. The part I recieved from my friend is a standard #TS15, which is a two prong. With a little research we found a standard TS43 single wire. This should work (I hope). Now I at least have the oil and the temp light along with the gauges. Thanks again, Just waiting for my care packages coming from Terry and Percy along with the snow tomorrow. Ron

You know, I just remembered something from a past FGF project:
You can run a wire from one temp "sender" to the water temp guage, and then another wire from another temp "switch" to the idiot light. The intake manifold has a few bores to allow for both the switch and the sender. Very easy to do and quite inexpensive, just make sure "switch" wire goes to light, and "sender" wire goes to guage.
Quite a few folks have this setup for redundancy, because some don't watch the temp guage as much as I do! They prefer a guage AND a big red idiot light as back-up.

I'm driving Terry nuts, just some small stuff. I was missing the glove box light and a lifting eye. Thats on its way. I'm also missing a posi rear too bad he won't mail it.lol.
