I'm not sure? But I used an automotive grade Black Sealer made by 3M for just about everything. I even sealed the holes for each emblem, trim piece, tail light bolts etc. just so I wouldn't get any seepage from anywhere.
It may be overkill, but I figure better safe than sorry. This sealer is thick, but plyable. You can form it into a rope, or a small ball etc. Depending on your needs. It doesn't harden, stays plyable and reusable if you take the emblems off etc.
With out knowing the sorrect answer, I'd say this stuff used sparingly would work great for your application. You don't have to use much, and it will wipe off the paint just fine.
