I own a 68 Conv (also two coupes) and my friend owns a 67 Conv. His cocktail shakers are missing from a previous restoration. We have a couple of questions regarding cocktail shakers. 1. What was the purpose of the cocktail shakers? 2. Were there [censored] tail shakers both back and front? If front where located? 3. Are there differences between the 68 and 67 cocktail shakers? (size or fit) 4. What was the weight of the shakers? 5. Are the shakers made after market? Thanks, Grant
I have two 68 Firebirds: 68 convertible ls2, auto 4L60E, red interior, white/black power top. I have owned since 1971. 2) 68 coupe, aqua/white tope. aqua interior, 350 4 speed. I am restoring this car and it will be for sale. Before paint or after.
1. They dampen/eliminate vibrations in the body. 2. Yes. 4 in each car. Front ones are between the radiator support and inner fender, tucked inside the fender. i.e. behind the battery. (at least on my 69) 3. I think 67-8 are the same but not sure on that one. 69's only fit 69. 4. They weigh about 25 pounds each. 5. Big NO here. You'll have to find a set of used ones. They are around, but can be hard to find. A set of 4 for a '69 go for about $400.
Hope this helps, Good luck.

Grant, 1.The purpose was to dampen vibration. In my opinion, they stiffen up the car sheet metal. 2.They have them front and rear. The front ones fasten to the fender and radiator support. 3.67 and 68 are the same. 4.I believe they weigh about 25-26 pounds each. 5.They are not being made aftermarket.
1. What was the purpose of the cocktail shakers? A: they are vibration dampeners, some cars do not seem to have vibration problems , but most do... 2. Were there [censored] tail shakers both back and front? If front where located? A:Yes, one in ea corner...for front in the fender behind /front of battery and by the w/s water bottle. 3. Are there differences between the 68 and 67 cocktail shakers? (size or fit) A: not size , but possibly fit...the brackets are different on some models/front /rear ...I forget now which , or how they differ, some are same brackets..so 67,68,69 are different , front and rear, but some interchange...only brackets differe
4. What was the weight of the shakers? A: 25 lbs ea 5. Are the shakers made after market? A : No, you got to find from used parts house, used parts guy on this site* , or EBay , three best bets usually... *)check with Firebird Bill earlybrds@aol.com and Terry Ritter youjincho@prodigy.net
