but when I did my carpet, I used the headlamp dimmer switch as the reference point.. also the carpet was pretty stiff.. so I laid it out for a few days before cutting it
You may want to use adhesive spray for the areas which get alot of movement from your feet, and near the edges which tuck under the kick panels. It's not a requirement, but helps keep things in place, assuming you won't need to pull it up again any time soon.
Cut it a little long where it tucks up under the kick panels. It always seems to shrink a little and you don't want a gap. I would use a semi-gloss with a few very light coats on the console. I like Krylon.
