I installed mine in the console( I used the camaro console b/c it allowed the guages like the factory install) and rewired everything new and left the idiot lights alone.

that would work but i put the factory rally guages in the dash(it has the 160 speedo on one side and batt, fuel, oil press, and temp on the other).I was just wondering if it would work as it is with my factory harness or is there anything i have to do to make it compatible to the factory wiring harness?thanks RAZ,I'm still thinking about having an extra set of guages under the dash in front of the console.

Jeremy,
The best advice I can give on these is that you treat them like aftermarket in some respects. You need to run wires from the gauges to the correct senders just like you would adding gages under the dash. All the factory wiring is going to do is give you power to the gages. This may sound 'over simplified' but it will point you in the right direction.

I think im on the same page Fbody, when i get thte engine in next week and gett he car powered up and running ill check the guages.if they work i scored.if they dont i guess i will have to go back to square one.I was just wondering if the dash harness was different for dash rally guages as appose to warning lights.but if there isnt a difference in the way the wires were run ill try it as is first.youd think that at least the oil and temp wouldnt have to be changed.but ill figure it out thanks.

Yes, it is different. With the correct harness you don't need the extra wires to the sending units. The harnesses are hard to find and new they are like $450. It's fairly easy to run the wires from the nuts on the back of the gages to the sending units.

Jeremy,

If you are installing a factory rallye guage set up, then you only need to switch a couple of wires on the electrical connector to the guages. I did this when I converted my car to factory rallye guages.

Once you have removed the cluster from the dash look at the electrical connector to the old cluster.

There are numbers 1-6 on the top and numbers 7-12 on the bottom. Switch number 5 (tan wire) with number 7 (brown wire). To remove a wire, go from the front (the side that plugs into the cluster) and insert a small flat screwdriver under the pin to release the tab that holds it in the connector. Be sure to expand the tab out before reinstalling it into the new location (make sure it is locked into position).

You will also have to replace the oil and temperature sending units. You can purchase these from Performance Years, Ames, Year One, NPD, etc.

Thanks to Dan Dykstra for this information!
