I pulled some numbers off my the block and heads on my car tonight and was wondering if someone could tell me what they mean. The only thing i know is the YE suffix code. They are as follows:
Front of the block right side: 03268 0785718 YE
Front of head: 03268
Side of Right head: F059
Side of Left Head: E299
I suspect the numbers on the heads might be month/date stampings but not sure. The car was built 5th week of August.
You are correct, the codes on the heads are date codes, June 5 of 69 and May 29 of '69. I do not know the end of production for '69 model year, but your August build date is either very early '69 or very late '69. If you have a PHS, what does the billing history say for order date and delivery date?
YE is a 350 2bbl in 1969. There will be another number down along the timing cover behind the lower radiator hose that will contain the last six digits of your VIN if the engine is numbers-matching.
Vikki 1969 Goldenrod Yellow / black 400 convertible numbers matching
The engine is numbers matching..i have looked at the lower number on the block and it matches the vin. I believe the car is an early build (August 68)... the last 6 of the VIN are N110703. Can you tell for sure by that?
Im pretty sure the heads are numbers matching as well. It might be an August 69 car then. Does the 03268 number thats on the front of the block and the 03268 number on the front of the heads mean anything in terms of matching? Where would i find the casting number on the heads and how many digits would be in that number?
casting # on the heads is on the two center exhaust runners. The intake also has a casting number 7 digit starting with 9, and a casting date. Carb has a part number, application code and date code, which is a vertical stamp on the throttle side of the float bowl. Distributor has a part number stamped into the housing as well.
The 03268 is probably a machine shop's identification stamp of their job number. That would indicate that the motor has been rebuilt. See if you can spot the same number on the opposite head. It may be at the back of the motor right next to the distributor, and you would need a mirror to see it.
On the center two exhaust ports should be a cast-in "47" which would be correct for a '69 350 2-Bbl.
Yes the heads have 47 on the center exhaust ports. Also found the date stamp on the exhaust manifolds. F049... So June 4 69. Couldnt see the stamping on the left one as its covered by some type of heat shield.
I found the info in my PHS paperwork regarding when the car was shipped to the dealer. It was shipped to Allison Pontiac in San Jose CA on Sept 17 1969. So its a late 69 built car..which makes sense for all the date stampings i have found. I didnt realize they were still making 69 model year at the end of August 1969 (08E on cowl tag)...when did they stop production for that year?
