I have a 68 Firebird, 350, mild mods, 350TH, 3:08 open rear...have found a Camaro, 12 bolt posi, 4:10 gears, with axle. I want to mat this with a 200R4 tranny. I know the tranny is an easy swap, but what changes will there be in the rear swap?...btw, I have mono leaf springs. Thanx, Kel
If it's a 1st gen Camaro 12 bolt it's an easy swap. It has a larger universal so there will be a driveshaft mod. unless you can locate a 1st gen Camaro shaft. I would recommend getting multi-leafs while you are at it. If this is an early Camaro 12-bolt they are rare and in high demand. I've seen them sell for $2500 because it's the limiting factor on the hi-po Camaros. All Z's and big block cars had them so if you are a cloner/creater you need it.
Kel, do ahead and make the change to multi-leafs. It's a simple swap. You may end up having to have the driveshaft shortened a little, but it's still a straight forward swap....less complicated than the TV cable on the 200R4.
Hell, if it is an early Camaro rear you could get big $$$$ for it and buy a new rear end from someone like mosier.
Have not seen it yet, Thomas is gonna go look at it for me....the guys says it was just rebuilt by Pyle Bros. outta Baytown Tx, I have heard some good reviews about them........Thomas did some calculating and with that rear, my tire setup and the 200R4 I plan on building, I should be around 2550 rpm @ 70 mph....and a heckuva lot quicker off the line
BTW, one small sticking point, it does not come with brakes, I have 1 guy says mine will bolt right up, and another says he doesn't think so....I'm going with guy # 1, any thoughts on that, Jim, Drew, anyone else?
I haven't tried to swap brakes from a 10 BOP to a 12 Corporate. It makes sense that you could swap everything from the backing plate out BUT it would depend on the hub diameters.
Another thing is that this could be a 12 bolt that was shortened to fit a Camaro. They are much more common than the original Camaro 12 bolt. If it is shortened then it just doesn't have the same value as the original Camaro 12. It's still just as good for what you want it for.

I aint lookin to make a profit, I'm just lookin to go fast.....er
It is my understanding that the bolt pattern in the axle flange is different from the BOP to the Corp., but everything outside the backing plate SHOULD be interchangeable.
The difference in bolt patter was another deciding factor for me to switch to an 8.5 10 bolt....it allowed me to bolt on LT1 rear disk brakes.....they wouldn't simply bolt up to the BOP rear end.
I have a 12 bolt in my '68. Backing plates are different but brake guts are the same. Axle tube to backing plate mounting pattern is different. I wouldn't think a set of backing plates would not be that hard to find. If nothing else, D&R Camaro has new replacements for $45 ea.
I used a shortened Chevelle driveshaft to mate the Turbo 400 and 12 bolt.
Rear brake line kit from The Right Stuff Deatiling for a '68 Firebird fit perfectly. I used the original (Camaro) 12 bolt differential brake hose bracket and the original style Firebird rubber brake hose. All worked and fit like factory.
I just looked at the pics you emailed again and realized you didn't even have backing plates. You will need to get the backing plates and possibly drums for the Camaro, but the rest of the guts, lines, and hose should swap right over.
