My '68 (which is still relatively new to me) was originally a 2 speed car, and has since been converted to a TH350. The floor shifter only has 5 stops - I can get to Park / Reverse / Drive / Neutral / Second, but no first.

Before I pull the console out to take a better look I thought I'd check with you guys - is this adjustable or do I need different parts for a 3speed auto?

Thanks!
Clay

Thanks for the link Vikki, but I'm still confused as to what I need

"To convert from 2- to 3-speed requires only the materials to hook up the cable and the transmission properly. The conversion does not require a new detent, because the 2-speed and 3-speed are functionally the same (the 3-speed has an extra hard stop for second gear)."

Is a different cable needed? Everything is working right now, I just can't shift into first gear.

If the 3 speed as an extra hard stop for a second gear, doesn't that mean that I WOULD need a different detent??

And FYI - the original detents are spot welded on. The replacements are held in place with bolts.

Clay,

I believe I still have my original 3-speed detent from when I converted my car to a 4-speed automatic kit from Shiftworks.

You are more than welcome to it for the cost of shipping. It should solve your problems.

When I did my ST-300 to TH-350 swap, I used a '69 three speed auto shifter that I bought from Terry Ritter. Even though I had the right shifter for my car, I still had to modify the shifter cable bracket that bolts to the transmission pan. I had to reposition this bracket so that I could get the lever on the side of the transmission to travel all the way from park to first.
