The green wire one slides on the nail head of the temp sender. There is supposed to be a slot in it on the side you are not showing. The other wire looks to be the one that goes to the oil sending unit.
Is that a new wiring harness? If so, then yes, it may be set up for idiot lights and not gauges. As Jim said, there should be a slot in the connector which will slide horizontally over the nailhead.
Don't forget your idle mixture screws. What kind of carb is that? I see a side inlet.

While we're talking sender wire hookup, what color is the wire to the idiot light oil sender for oil pressure (67)? I figure I ought to have the idiot light hooked up too since I probably won't notice if the gauge goes to zero before it's too late.
Ron is correct on the colors. I got a replacement harness with the wrong connector housing too. I complained to the manufacturer, M&H and they sent a new housing which is easy to install.
The black wire in your pic is for the idle stop solenoid, if you have one installed. If not, just leave the connector in the harness. Since I have the same harness installed in my car, it would be interesting to see a OEM temp sensor connector.
