It's getting muggy up here in NH and I was wondering about my 455 sitting on the engine stand in the garage. Should I get an oil pump primer and spin some oil through it every so often? It was done by the previous owner a few mos. ago. If so, how often?
Where do I get an oil pump primer for a 455 (I checked Summit but couldn't find one for a Pontiac).
I was concerned about this myself. I pulled my motor out last may and did not touch it again until June of this year. When I pulled it apart, their was not a speck of rust anywhere on the inside of it. If it was lubed recently, I wouldn't worry about it for a while yet.

Just remember that the drill must be reversible, because you've got to spin the pump counter-clockwise.
I used the same screw-driver approach, but I took the big ol' Craftsman screwdriver (the one that never gets used as a screw driver but as a pry bar, hammer or chisel) and a socket and spun the pump using my reversible electric impact wrench.
I don't think that rust will be a factor in the areas that the oil will travel. I have seen junkyard engines, sitting outside in the weather for decades. They never had any perservative measures done to them, and there was zero rust in the journals and lifter bores.
