Planning on rebuilding the front suspension on my 68. Most of it looks pretty original and it feels a little loose, so better safe than sorry. Who do you guys recommend for a front suspension kit? From reading past posts it looks like people have had good luck with P-S-T. Like to keep the car fairly original.

Check your local parts store for Moog for the balljoints, tie rod ends, and control arm bushings and shafts. They make an offset upper control arm shaft which allows for more adjustment if needed.

If you like, you can upgrade to graphite-impregnated polyurethane for the control arm bushings. Some like them, some hate them.

Anyway, compare Moog to PST for pricing, etc., on the rubber/steel parts. Energy Suspension is the most common brand name for urethane from what I have seen.

Upper balljoint K5108 $22 ea x 2
Lower balljoint K5103 $26 ea x 2
Outer tie-rod end ES381RL $20 ea x 2
Inner tie-rod end ES-681N $20 ea x 2

About $175. I didn't keep the numbers on the control arm bushings for some reason.

I get the complete kits from PST. No complaints.

While replacing all those, also plan to replace the tie rod sleeves, shock absorbers, sway bar bushings and end link bushings, the rag joint and the center link, and examine the idler arm and Pitman arm. If there is any vertical play in a ball stud, replace the component. And examine the front wheel bearings and the bearing surface of the spindle.

I just installed Energy Suspension polyurethane control arm bushings in my 'bird and the steering response is much improved. That was in addition to previously replacing all the other components except rag joint, body bushings and center link, I now have to do a partial disassembly to replace them.

I went with PST and it was a very nice kit. The people at PST were excellent.

I like the poly, too. In fact my body bushings are poly. Not the red ones, though {shudder} Yeah, I also replaced the pitman and idler on mine, but only because I was able to find an NOS Moog pitman for the OHC.

Ok thanks for the help everyone. I'm going to go with PST and examine and replace the parts Vikki pointed out. Only regret is the bird will be off the road a couple of weeks while I do this.

I do have some play in the front wheel bearings. if I pull on the top of the tire I can feel some movement so I'll check the bearings and spindle too.
