I have a ground wire hanging from underneath the car near the gas tank. It is grounded where the fuel line and hose from tank connect by the rt rear shock. Where could this be from? Is there a ground behind the tank I can't see or was this added by someone along the way. I don't want to drop the tank if there is no need. Let me know if you have any ideas...

It's for your gas gauge.

If I remember right there should be a hole in the vicinity to screw it into the body with.

the wire is already screwed into the body. It the other side that's not connected and the gas gauge works fine....

It's to ground the gas tank for the gas gage. Your tank must be getting a ground a different way. You should hook it back to the tank to prevent any sparking from static electricity.

It goes to the sending unit.
