i need to know how to wire my altenator in corectly. i bought the car with this already done, but i don't think it is right.. it is for a 67 with a v-8 (if it matters). thanks in advance.
If it's only got one wire there's no need for a schematic, is there?
It should be hooked to constant battery voltage. GM usually uses the starter post where the battery cable connects... constant 12v, big post on starter. I think they use 8-10 gauge wire or larger. The alternator grounds through its housing.
You have to rev over 2000rpm before it energizes and starts charging, then it will charge normally. If that's the problem, it's normal with a one-wire alternator. A 3 wire alternator is energized by the ignition, and begins charging immediately.
