is the a site out there that can identify parts by casting numbers? i have a bunch of old parts laying around. water pumps, tranny's, sbc heads , bellhousings, ect.....
Try googling the casting number. I think Vikki suggested that and I tried it for a crank casting number and several sites came up with casting number listings that I needed.

You just type the casting number in the box for the google search. There may not be any sites that list numbers for parts other than blocks, cranks, and heads.
