well the time has come finally, we will be pulling the oh-c engine to do some work and to repaint the engine the problem is we can't seem to make up our minds on the color we keep going back & forth from; fire engine red or the original pontiac blue as you can see from the link below the car it self is RED and the original blue just seems to clash we had been looking at Joe's engine (68blk bird) and it looks so sweet but at the same time the blue is the original color, so Albert said to get some opinions from all of you out there. now I know most will say it is a personal choose and I agree with that but we would like some opinions from other first gen bird owners and would greatly appreciate them one other thing i'd like to mention is the re-sale value is not an option as we have no intensions of ever saleing her the only thing we worry about is if there is ever a divorse the fight will be on :p but i guess after 24 years thats highly un-likely he knows it's much cheaper to keep me ha ha thanks for any responses, Teresa
just like a good marriage to make it work you try not change a thing and it been workng for 24 years and like a good old car to keep it true to it roots you try not to change it and being a true good old hot roder to the core keep it the way it was born and roll off the assembely line and took it's first steps and from all us pontiac metlic blue bloods i'm sure you'll do what's right

Teresa...Sounds like a no brainer to me...The car left the factory painted Red and Pontiac painted their engines Blue...Stick with it, it's not your fault if the colors clash!
If your going for 100% stock, then go with blue. If your not worried about keeping it stock then I would go with whatever looks good in the car. Red and Pontiac blue,,, not a good combo IMO . Dont beat me up too badly for saying that
I'd go with Ponitac blue, not because I'm concerned whether or not it's origional; rather, I'm free to pick and choose as what I deem correct and incorrect.
There is nothing wrong with clashing clors; in fact, clashing colors were a trademark of the era.
Just because a Pontiac blue engine is correct for me, it doesn't mean it's correct for you. If something is correct for me, I don' have to ask someone else whether or not it's correct for me. If a color change is correct for you, you shouldn't have any problems making the correct decision.
Heck if I did was correct for my car, the correct thing would have been to junk it, so other's people version of correct isn't always the correct decision that you must make.
The first time I saw a vintage Pontiac motor, I thought it had been custom painted metallic blue. Then I found out it was the factory color... Cool! My vote goes for the factory color.
Funny, i get al sorts of great compliments on the pontiac metallic blue colour and cannot count the amount of times i'm asked if that was a factory colour and how they think it is the nicest engine colour they have seen.Paint her what you desire or you think suits your car and remember even if it's red, yellow or whatever...deep down inside it will always be true blue! (i'd stick with the pontiac metallic blue though )

we do appreciate all the feed back. when we bought the car in 94 and rebuilt the engine we had it repainted then to the original pontiac blue. and yes the color is an eye catcher/graber with the car being a 250 ohc we get more conversation on what the engine is more so than the color. we have always appreciated the pontiac blue but after seeing other engines repainted to other colors has us thinking unique rather than original.... speaking of this hey joe could you pm me a couple of pictures of your engine again it seems i cant find them any more thanks... and speaking of unique take a look at ohc engine on the front of primetec web page, and i think quenton also has an ohc engine in a diffrent color also.... dont get us wrong we are not knocking the blue if that were the case our minds would have already been made but like many of you we also like the original blue! loved all the feed back we got we will keep everyone informed as to how we go when we get there. thanks , albert, teresa
one other quick note the other color we were thinking of is red with chrome strips down the top of the tower and on the front of the timing cover. exactly like the one on primetechs overhead cam forum page except just reverse the colors. and i do mean RED not chevy orange!
bjorn, its funny as of last fall I thought we had decided on the red with chrome on the ridges but now that the time to do it is finally here we are really having second thoughts. and now with all the feed back we are getting really has me more confussed I know its only 10:40 in the morn. but I need a drink lol. teresa
Albert,Teresa....I know red with shiny ridges looks good , I had that on my Ford 302....but ,this is a Pontiac engine,it will look better blue! blue with sanded ridges , gets you the silver look, ecxept for the plastic fron part ,you`ll have to paint it...
Easier solution, just paint your car a complimentary colour to the factory pontiac metallic blue Problem solved

I want to say thanks to all of you for the feed back, I think we have decided to go ahead and go with Q's sugestion and keep the origanal blue and add in the red on the ridges to highlight the car being red itself thanks again for all the input.
