What would be the largest rim and tire combination (taking backspacing into account) for filling the wheel wells of a 67 firebird with 15" rims without rubbing the sub frame or fender wells. I currently have 4 American Racing TT Two's 15"x8" with 3.75" backspacing with 235 60 15 on the front and 255 60 15 on the back. The front currently rub the sub frame on sharp turns and rub the upper fender trim on big dips.
In about a week I will let you know if my experiment works out. I found a set of 15x7 rally IIs in a bone yard I am putting on a '67 rag top. The rubber is going to be 245 60 R 15s. I curently have a set of old keystone klassics with 225 70 R 15s and they clear the fender wells and sub frame just fine. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Lahrz, you may want to go with at least a 50 series tire. The 60 series will be too tall & being 245 wide you'll have some rub issues... Unless you stick the rear un in the air a bit...
With a shorter profile, (50's) you should be able to pull it off. I have 225/60/15's on Rally II's on my 67 and they are just fine front and back, but want to go wider in back next time I need tires... and I'm looking at 245/50's...
So let us know how it goes!
