can't get the thing out. Have pushed on the button on the switch to release it but it will not come out! What am I doing wrong?

I had the same problem, push in on the light switch stem when pushing in the release button.

Push the knob all the way in. Turn it to the left until it stops. Press the release button and pull the knob straight out. You may have to turn it back and forth a little, but it should come out. Make sure you are pressing the relase button ALL the way in. Mine did the same thing and it was because I wasn't pushing the button all the way in...
