I'm trying to get some people who are interested in a Colorado meet/cruise night. Hopefully, this would turn into a semi-regular, i.e. a few times a year, thing. I already have a few people interested.
I'm in Colorado Springs, but the meet could be wherever... (Denver, Pueblo, Colorado Springs).
If you are interested, PM me or email me at davidboltz@hotmail.com and I'll put my organizational skills to the test. Thanks, Dave
You cannot be the only one out there...I know for a fact that when Scott F ( from Houston then ,now in New Orleans), went to Colorado on a job intervue , the guy he intervued with had a First Gen F-Bird... hang in there!
And I know that I stopped at a car show I saw while driving on US34 through Loveland. There were three 1st gens there that day. And I saw a beautiful gold '68 in Estes Park a couple years back. And I recall a 1st gen "List" member from Denver who discussed high altitude tuning with me. There are others out there, perhaps they are just not on this forum. And, while looking for something in a Yellow pages out there I spotted a 1st Gen parts dealer in Greeley. Maybe they know of 1st Gen meetings.
I had a couple of responses around 3 months ago from another post under the "ramblings" sections, and I actually have one guy in Denver with a running car interested, and one guy in Denver with a non-running car. I also met a guy in Colorado Springs with a '68 400 who is interested. So, that's 4 cars and soon to be 5. I'm hoping for a bit more, though... and yes, I'm hanging in there. Thanks for the encouragement!
Raz, I'll give you a holler sometime next week. I would love to go tomorrow but I'm working again. If I have like a week's notice, I can get out of weekend work... but I don't think I can get out of it on a day's notice.
I actually think that 5 or 6 cars would be a good start for a cruise night or meet. If we want to plan something for say, a month from now, that would be cool. Having something actually on the calendar would probably get the lead out.
Actually, I am working this weekend (this is my last weekend for a while). Also my car is partially disassembled but should be back together in about 2 weeks or so. I'm going to try you on the phone and see if I can get you...
Didn't get your email, Bill. I am not too sure about this weekend, but next weekend sounds pretty good. My car still has no fender or hood on it, and I need to take the other fender off for repairs, too. I may be making my appearance in a Honda.
Raz.. don't know if you got my PM or not. I'm still 3-4 weeks away from being back on the road. As soon as I am, you can count on me!!!! I'll be in primer, tho... Dave
Hi Dave, I dont know if it will work out but I have a vaction in august that I might be able to bring the bird up to the springs and give you a hand with your car. Maybe on a Friday so we could check out the car meet they have up there in the evening. Let me know.
Actually that sounds really cool, Bill!!! I'll take all the help I can get! The local car meet is Saturday evenings starting around 5:00 or so till dusk. Gimme a holler anytime or email me at davidboltz@hotmail.com
Hi Dave, what is the status on your bird? What are u working on and when do u expect to get it back on the road? Also, have u heard from any of the other bird owners in the springs area. I am still planning on coming down one of these sat. if thats ok with u, is there any chance of meeting together with these other bird owners?
Well, my painter buddy was over today and looked at my bodywork and gave me a B grade for my first time. He has like 10 yrs bodyshop exp. and is a awesome painter. He loaned me a really long sanding block and gave me some pointers. Long story short, I am doing pretty good but need a lot of block sanding by a keen eye and a small amount of bodywork in the quarters and doors (smoothing mostly). All the rust repair is done. I can drive down the road but it looks kind of funny with no fenders and hood, ha ha. I will try to get a hold of a couple of guys with birds and see what they are doing. The guy with the 68 is here close and the other guy is probably in the same boat as me, but he lives up by you somewhere. I can also call a couple of other buddies by and we can make it a BBQ or something... just try to have some fun.
I think I still have your phone number, I'll look around and give you a holler tomorrow or the next day.
Sounds good Dave, I got a lot of practice with the blocking excercise! I did the whole car 3 times! but the end result is well worth it so maybe I can be a help in that department as it does get a bit tedius. Are u using a guide coat? it is the only way to really get the body straight. My phone # is 303 791-0233 in case u lost it, call anytime the evenings are the best bet.
Yeah Dave... Sorry, I have been busy of late I have been meaning to ask how your doing on your bird? I would still like to get together with you and the other fgf guys either up there or where ever works out. I have the guys e-mail who lives up here with the 69' vert he said he would be willing to do a meet whenever we can, plus the guy in franktown who also has a 69' vert.Anyway let me know how your doing ok.....Raz
Dave, I got your message, as far as the hood I still have it but it does need to be re-worked, if you are going to use it as an extra hood I think it would be fine that way you always have the origanal if anything wierd happens. It won't take that much extra paint and it is a great looking hood, you will need to get the scoops for it as I used those on my car. Let me know if u want to come by and get it. u can call anytime, Raz
hey guys ... I have a '68 F-bird, and am looking to meet up with others who have Ponchos, too. Did anything ever get set up? Do you plan on attending the "Creme de la Chrome" show the weekend after Thanksgiving?
Let me know, as i'm about to start in on a restifying mine soon.
RAZ.. you got it, I'll give you a call regarding the hood for sure in a few days. Dave, I am finishing the resto on mine and hope to be done by spring. We will definitenly be doing some cruises but I don't think I will be able to make the cruise you are talking about. Raz knows a couple of guys with finished cars and maybe you guys could hook up sometime!
Just wanted to say I met up with ramataz last night and he's got an awesome car! I'm really looking forward to finishing my car and cruising with him and some other FGF owners this summer! P.S. thanks for the hood, buddy!
No problem dave, I am glad it can be put to use, let me know if there is any thing else I can help with.It will be a blast to get as many birds together as we can and do a cruise!
Hey Guys, Please include me into your Colorado Firebird Group. I have a 69 bird and recently moved to Craig CO in the NW corner. Like most of these cars I doubt that I will ever finish my bird but, it's a good driver. Tim Gibbs Craig, Colorado (970) 824-5778 I have a few parts too but, most are still packed in my storage building.
Great, Tagman! We're looking forward to seeing you. I am hoping to have the car put back together soon! We have about 8-10 guys interested and I'll be in touch when we get something nailed down date-wise!
Coming along pretty good! Fenders and both hoods are done and primed... trying to find the money to buy paint with! I want to compensate you for the hood, give me a call sometime so we can work something out.
Still need to take my doors off and work them a bit and remove all the glass and hardware... maybe buy some POR15 to use on a few areas like the insides of the doors. After that, I'm ready for the paint booth!
Looks like you are getting close! Do you think you might get it running this summer? I need to put a rear bearing on mine but that is not a big deal I just need to do it.Do you still have the '74 400? I could slowly build a new motor for mine and then drop it in when its done. Let me know and keep me informed on the birds progress!
Sounds good Dave,If it works out maybe we can get a 'bird cruise in this year yet! I found another 'bird owner in elizabeth this week, he has 3 all total! The one I saw was a '68 with a 455 in it he has a '69 also and said he would be interested in getting together with the rest of us. How many does that make altogether anyway? As for the motor I will take you up on that offer can you refresh my memory about exactly what you know about it?
It's a 74 stamping, 75 model year block, early stamping so it has the thicker cylinder walls, YH code out of a Bonneville/automatic. As far as I know it's stock and not overbored and has never been apart. 5C heads (98cc). Ran less than a year ago before being pulled, didn't smoke at all and ran real strong. Has 2 barrel manifold and carb, HEI distributor, water pump, starter, etc. I'd call it an even trade for the hood if you would. You could just mill the heads and change cams and bolt in... or rebuild and do it up silly fast!
I have added a couple more Firebird guys to the local list and have 6 other guys not counting you or me or any of the guys you know. Email me or PM me and I'll share my list with you.
I still hope to have mine done this year but I kind of doubt it due to money. I'll give you a holler on the phone sometime in the next week or so.
