Couple possible events coming up for the Maryland Order of Firebirds Organization (MOFO's):
Ashtray's Second Annual MOFO BBQ: Date TBD. Weather permitting.
MD Ocean City Cruise: May 18-21, 2006. The plan would be to hopefully meet up somewhere near Baltimore/Annapolis and drive the caravan of FGF's to OC! http://www.specialeventpro.com/
OC is more of a party, huge gathering of all makes/models, and some really high quality show cars at the show, but then the town fills up with driver quality muscle cars of all types driving up and down the streets.
PITP is a racing event/gathering, and as the name suggests, only for Pontiacs. Here's where you could sign up for drag racing and/or show your car. Watch Pontiacs of all types and years tear down the drag strip.
The MOFO's could do *both* events, some people going to OC, some people going to PITP.
Hopefully "Ashtray's First (Second?) Annual BBQ" can be held early in May for all current members to meet, and to welcome in new members as well. Discussions of which event people are interested in going to, peaking under the hood of the cars, and a nice leasurely drive around the area - perhaps some back road driving, some highway driving, etc etc. Car swapping for the cruise will be permitted on a car by car basis. All cars must be returned to their "original" owner before leaving however.
More MOFO events this summer.

At PitP if you enter the show, you get "show parking" which I assume is better then Gen Admission parking (and more secure), and you get one free pass down the track. It's around $15 more than Gen Admission.
The thing about pip is that you cannot do anything other than stand there and watch. If there is a swap meet--well, a swap meet is a swap meet, and the active members of mofo don't have that many needs as far as replacment parts. As far as that goes, hanging out at the track is hanging out at the track. Both of these things can be done all summer long.
The oc cruise is a different ballgame. This one, you are the car show because the "spectators" are in thier own muscle cars, creating a car rolling car show. Instead of stading on the sidelines, watching, you are drag racer, and if you're not an idiot--knowing the difference between playfull light launches from the light and bleach box burnouts--you can kinda/sorta drag race without getting a ticket.
An event whereby you can sit in your car among 10,000 to 15,000 growling muscle cars, lightly squaring off at x-mas trees at each block isn't something that one can do on any weekend. This number of cars isn't an exageration--the car show has 5,000 entries, and the less than show cars is about 3 to 1, prowling the streets. This event isn't something that can be done on any weekend, and I doubt that there are many places in the US that have such a free-for-all on the street.
I'm kicking it into high gear for the next week or so to get the bucket of bolts rolling, and because even at such a huge event, you only see a stray bird flying around, so it would be really nice to have a string of f/g/f cars rolling on oc's streets that weekend.
Just tossing this out there... how's your MOFO's schedule looking for next weekend? Like May 6th, for a bbq / get together? I'll have to make sure I'm in town, and the wife doesn't have anything planned - but I wanted to see who would be free that weekend before planning anything.
