I own a very early 67 firebird 326. production number 000627. It has a 2 speed automatic tranny, BUT it is NOT a powerglide. To my surprise when I went to service the tran filter, It turns out this is a "super turbine hydra-matic 300". Is this a stock transmission? It is not in any books or manuals I have. PLease help!!!
I just read something this week that Firebirds got the ST300 and Camaros got the Powerglide. Thought it was this site, but now I'm not sure.
If I was at home, I would check my '67 Service Manuals for you. I would think they would talk about this tranny.

So I'm claiming it) Old projects, gone but not forgotten: 1967 FB 400, original CA car. After 22 years of work, trashed by the guy who was supposed to paint it. I had to sell it. 1980 Turbo Trans Am 1970 Mustang fastback, 351C 4Bbl, auto 1988 Mustang GT, 5 speed 1983 F-150 4x4, built 302 1994 Chevy K2500 HD 4x4, 454 TBI
ST 300's were what came with the 2 speed 67 Firebirds. The transmisssion is actually a heavier duty than the powerglide. We have a 67 with the same setup, and it was an original product of the car. Because of a big fire at GM back then it was hard to track what actually went into the vehicles. But all the research we did shows that you have the correct tranny for that car.
Tom, I have a 67 326HO convertible that was built 1st week of feb 67 [early also I think]and things seem weird with this car also..this seems to be a very original unmolested car except for the motor.. and it has a three speed auto with the clear shifter lens[3 speed]wich only came with 400 I thought .somebody help me out.It has tilt wheel also, that pontiac says was not an option..on this car
326 HO, the most likely case is that the tranny and column were changed at some point.
I'd like to believe that it was not the case...
I know the H.O. cars got most everything the 400's did, or clost to it as far as the suspension and upgraded components, so the 3 speed could have been an option ordered?
Have you gotten your PHS documentation? That will tell you everything the car was ordered with. http://www.phs-online.com/
