I recall earlier this year a few of you squared one of our folks here away (maybe when Johnny Mac was replacing his engine) on correct engine mounts, to include accurate photos and part numbers. It seemed that one could easily order the wrong mounts for some reason if they didn't know specific info.
I'll be pulling the engine in November and want to replace those. Anyone recall who provided the pics and diagrams?

Last time i needed one, the local auto store said they had no listing past 72. So i asked them if they had a listing for 72-74 Ventura, since they used the same style subframe. They had one in stock.
None of you recall the thread where someone pointed out to a member here (based on a pic that member posted) that he had the wrong mounts installed? I'll do some searching on this website.

Dave, are not the left and right hand side mounts for FGFs different, thereby causing all the concerns of not having ordered the correct mount assenblies in the first place?
I know I've seen posts here from folks who thought they ordered the right parts, only to find out they didn't.
Quite obviously, this post indicates that I myself have yet to remove said mount assemblies and taken a good look at them. Why am I thinking the left and right mount assemblies are different on FGF Pontiacs?

John, i think i took some pics and/or measurements for someone here. Now if i cannot find good pics of good mounts for you,if it would be of some help i can take some of the mounts i have on my spare block but they are missing the rubber.I'll do some searching on my computer.

They are definitely different between left and right. The relationship between the two holes on the side that bolt to the block and the main vertical bolt hole is mirror image and not symmetric. Try switching them and you'll see what I mean.
Like I said ... try switching them. The OHC mount is identical left and right. ALL the parts books list the right mount for a Chevy OHV even if you say '67 Firebird. It's simply the wrong mount. The Big Car mount (B&C) is also different.
I was going to post that they were different and had to take a look. After seeing the part numbers I wasn't sure. Maybe this could explain some of the engine alignment problems that have been asked about?
I'm not sure, Jim. First of all, I have GTO Glasses and OHC glasses, and may not always see everything clearly. I believe, though, that you can always get one to line up regardless of whether they are switched, and the other either lines up perfectly or not at all. If not at all, then they must be swapped.
Pioneer - one of our suppliers - lists two separate part numbers for the left and right mount. Now, in thinking about that, it's possible that the fail-safe may be present only on the left mount, but that the holes may in fact not be far enough off to be a bother. However, I believe the holes ARE staggered to help offset the motor to the passenger side to clear the steering gear box.
Anyone who can help out to confirm or disprove this, we welcome your input.
A body differed L&R. Firebird 8 used two identical insulators 478846 and 6 used two 9797294.
I have '69, but if anyone can send photos of mounts and insulators for various engines and years (as installed...preferably engines on subframes) I will try to sort this out, as there are 5 separate part numbers listed for V8s, 350s different than 400s, etc...
Need OHC pics too, please.

Got the pics david, thanks. I swear someone sent Johnny Mac some info or a thread this past spring that clearly identified what he needed, and that showed the difference between left and right.

Sorry to bring this old post back but I put a 72 Ventura subframe (original Pontiac 350 car) in my 68 Firebird that has a 68 Pontiac 350. Now the engine/headers sit up against the steering box. Before, when I had the original 68 Firebird subframe I had a good 1/4" gap (if not more) between the headers and the steering box. I bought the motor mounts from Ames and didn't bother to check them against the originals since they were "interchangeable". I've tried just about everything to get the engine to "slide" to the passenger side without much luck. I found this post and now I wonder if the motor mounts (insulator) were different for a 72-74 Ventura subframe. I will pulling the engine soon and would like to get this resolved before I install it again.
The Ventura would have came with a Pontiac v-8 as an option. With this in mind, it should not matter what body you put the subframe on. I have heard of having the header hit the steering box, it is common. You need to put a small dent in the header for clearance. Why did you change subframes? Was the other one bent? Maybe that is your reason for the difference in sub frames.
The subframe was changed because of the rust damage at the body mount areas (rust through at the firewall). All the bottom services were damaged from "bottoming out" the car it would appear. The frame rails were pushed in also, probably from lifting the car with a bottle jack without putting a piece of 2x4 on top to distribute the load. There appears to be front end damage on the car (some of the metal, including the bumper was bent), enough to bend the subframe? I don't know. The "new" subframe came out of a really nice Ventura. When I originally bought my 68 the previous owner put a Chevy 305 in it. He welded in Chevy motor mounts. I had to cut these off, grind down the welds, and re-drill the original holes (luckily none the holes were damaged).
the frame mounts are side specific. the rubbers are the same. look at the frame peices and youll notice the pass. side is slightly higher and to the rear. if i remember correctly.
