I'll take a shot in the dark(got my nightvision goggles on); The distributor side.

I'd hate to get Jim p!$$ed off at me and, while he has a snub nose revolver, have him meet up with me in a dark alley!!! Even at 100 yards!!!

how to do?

On HEI there is a place for that right on the side of the cap. It says TACH and it's right next to the power clip.

Depending on the tach you have, an aftermarket HEI setup is simple. As Jim says, the HEI has a tab clearly marked TACH on it. The POS or power wire from the tach goes to that. The only other wire from the tach is a ground. Have you got something different?
