I have had 5 black cars I will not have another they look great when they are clean witch is for about 5 seconds after you wipe it off. I am painting my bird carasel red to make it easier.
My firebird is black it looks good when it's clean but your always washing, waxing etc,I had it wheeled out year before last and boy does it shine when it's clean. The only reason I went with black is because it's the original color.
Black has never gone out of style.People can see and know you've got kahones. The body work better be straight no perfect!Everyone loves to point a finger.Thats why my 68 400 is jet black
Whats wrong with red??? Costs more to do jambs, etc, when changing colors.
I have owned a few black vehicles. And before I bought each one I said, "I'll never buy a black one again" They are some of the nicest looking when clean. I WILL NEVER buy a black truck again.
But, have a black firebird.... definately, if the chance came up. How often does it really get dirty? A "California Duster" keeps it clean between washes. And as said previously make sure the body is nice and straight because it will show any imperfections.
They guys are all correct , a black car that`s clean and waxed looks great ! ( for all of 5 minutes!) BUT if you have the elbow grease , go for it , personnally I`d NEVER have a black car, too hot here in Texas , but anytime you`ve got a repair or such its THE hardest color to 'repair' ,while white is easiest...the darker the color the easier it shows dirt ,dust etc and harder to 'spot' if you need a repair ( hope you wont have to) , and the lighter the color , the easier.. just a thought. When I got my car it was red (originally it was midnight green) , even though red was not my color , I kept it when repainting it , for the reason noted above , the insides of trunk and door jambs etc ,were fine and if you keep same color ,its lots easier and cheaper to stick to the same color.... wow, like someone said,"whats wrong w/red?" I love red. red is my favorite color. i have a black ragtop and black interior, so the red and black combo are perfect together its just getting old getting soooooooo much attention from everyone including my buddies the california highway patrol.
Aha , you are worried about the "arrest me red" color! lol Thats what I have , check up my car on http://firstgenfirebird.org/show/closeup.mv?CarID=221 I`ve got a red w/ black deluxe interior ,black conv. top, was once a midnight green w/ dark green car....nothing wrong w/ red, but wasn`t the color I was looking for , for excact same reasons , but have had no problem so far.... Thank for the kind words on my sled! You`ve got to use your 'built in' radar detector!lol I used to use radar detectors , but at the end ,abt. 8 yrs ago,I figured out I had started to 'rely' on them , and w/ todays 'quick read' radars they`re no good...I put mine on the shelf and use my 'common sense' ( not that common actually!) instead...and really study the environment when I drive , no tickets since....and I`m not a slow driver.... just have to 'figure out', what to look for , which cars are 'suspect' etc... , Bjorn
in ca bjorn the cal.highway patrol cant use radar on fed funded highways so they do 90 to try to catch up with speeders. i found the trick is to go faster than 90 but not pass a cop! lol.
tnims68, I say go for it! You need to enjoy it while you can, so make it the car YOU want!
If you do the prep work well, and go with a two stage paint (base/clear) and use enough clear to be able to wet sand to perfection, you'll be golden! No worries!
I don't know about you, But I clean my car all the time anyway, so what the hell? Go Black!
