Took my 69 bird out last night ,the last time i drove a 69 firebird was 18yrs ago. just got this one 3 months ago,did some minor repairs had it saftey checked to meet highway regulations, had it appraised, got insurance & plates yesterday.when wife got home from work she asked if we were going out i said ya but were taking the bird,it was just like the old days. we had to pick our daughter from a friends house, we got there she was waiting outside,i pulled right up beside her and her friend, her friend said your parents are here ,my daughter said they are not thats not my car.she didn;t know it was licensed yet. the car ran good rattles a lot more than the new cars,i don;t have a stero in it yet so you hear everything .all in all a good night.
A similar story you might enjoy...I lost my first 67 Firebird 400 to fire in 1985. I found my current one in 1998 at the Carlisle, PA swap meet and drove it home. Probably shouldn't have after finding the steering issues the next day. Having a limited budget, I got all the safety stuff done first, like you, Harry. The car had been sitting since 1986 and was a sight my wife and daughter could not believe I had actually paid to own. They dubbed it the "welfare car".
One evening soon after getting it on the road, we had to make a grocery run with all hands. Well, the daughter was mortified to be seen in the "welfare car". This was made worse by the presence of the store-employed teenaged package handlers outside the store. That is, until she heard their "Wow, awesome car!" comments when we had pulled up to the curb and she was getting out of the car. She went from shriveling up to be as small as possible in the back seat to hide and transformed into the Queen of Sheba debarking from her gold-encrusted chariot!
That was just the start! The next day at school she was given the third-degree by the guys wanting to find out about the car. In turn, I got it from her that evening. She must have had her arm full from elbow to fingertip of crib notes on the details to answer all the questions the next day.
She never has lacked for conversational material with guys since...and the old nickname disappeared, too.
Glad to hear you are back in the Morrokide saddle, Harry. Enjoy it fully.
thanks guys !I wanted it on the road before winter so i could find out if anything really needs attention this winter. i learned the door locks don't work, good thing i checked before closing the door.this car had 11 previous owners and was sold approx every 3 1/2 years.i have a list of the previous owners.this car is not perfect but i will not part with it,it has found a home at last. now to save money for parts.
Glad to here you got some time in before the snow falls Harry.I have not driven mine in 9 years now and just bought a 69'olds cutlass convertible off my father.Nice car but it isn't the same as my firebird. Harry, was i on the previous owner list you have? Just curious as i had a guy stiff me for my 69' about 10-11 years ago.We made a deal on it and he never followed through on it but i graciously signed the car over to him on good faith. Are you out there Ken? I still know where you are and you have made the postman angry.I haven't forgotten you.One day i will be paying you a surprise visit.

Awesome story, and glad to hear it... I think most of us have some background like that, where we are just replacing our birds that we used to have or finally getting that car we always dreamed of...
No matter what, I too love to hear the enthusiasum for our cars! Nothing else like it... words cannot describe...
Thanks Harry. Come to think of it i think it was registered to my wife.Any Marilyn's on the list? Looks like a good day out there to go for a boot.
