what rear ends usually came in the 69 firebird... were all of them posi? gear ratios? dunno much about them but lookin at buying one and I was just curious as to what rear ends came in the 69... thanx, later
The 1969 Firebird was offered with 9 different gear ratios ranging from 2.56:1 to 4.33:1. The 3.90:1 and 4.33:1 were only offered with Safe-T-Track (posi).
There is a two letter code stamped on your axle housing on the driver's side facing the rear of the car. Open axles (non-Safe-T-Track) start with "Y". Safe-T-Track axles start with "Z".
