Will a 455 with a Edelbrock RPM intake clear the hood on my 68 firebird. E-intake is 1.25" taller than stock. Plan on using a 800 or 850 Q-jet carb. Thanks for any info Merv

A friend of mine has a 455 in his 67 400 car with an RPM and had to use the aftermarket drop base air cleaner, and a flater style nut for the top but it all fit... It did work with his stock aircleaner, but did rub on the hood...
Just check twice before closing the hood for the first time!
Have a 400 with Torker II, Q-Jet and 3/4" spacer..and a 4" air cleaner 67 bird, 400 hood. No problems. RPM is same height as Torker II w/spacer. I did use a phillips bolt in lieu of carb stud/wingnut..looks cleaner in appearance.
Aircleaner is Edelbrock 14" lid/base with Delco element.

Thanks guys for the reply's. What I think I'm hearing is that it will work. The torker II with the spacer is only .10 shorter than the RPM. Banshee, I have a 400 hood for my 67 so I measured the depth (or height) of it and compared it to the standard hood on the 68. They are both the same. Birdman , was that a standard hood or a 400 on your friends car? Thanks, benny.

I have a Performer RPM and a Holley avenger 770 carb on my 69 with the standard hood. My 3" K&N rubbed the hood; I had to switch to a drop base air cleaner.
