We all know that the 1st Gen F-body inner fender seal kits come with a strange "5th seal" that's supposed to go along the bottom of the firewall on the left (driver's side). The other 4 go on the inner fenders. My '67 Camaro Assembly Manual shows this extra seal plain a day going around the inner fender to firewall support bracket and the speedo cable.
But the Assembly Manual shows that there is a special bracket that this seal staples to on the right side and a special clip that supports it on the left. My car is pretty original and intact down to the smog pump and had neither of these parts. And I checked my disassembly photos today. Nada. My car did have what was left of the 4 inner fender seals.
Has anybody actually found any evidence that this "5th seal" was actually put on an FGF?

I think I have one out in the garage still stapled to the bracket. Gotta get up some nerve to go out there. It's 35 degrees and I have to kick the snow away from the door. It's too early for this!
Sorry to hear that Jim, it's a sunny 70 here today on the We(s)t Coast and I golf in 2 hours. I heard you guys had a nasty snowfall....get the sleds out!
I think I will just staple my 5th seal to the garage wall "just in case".

Found a picture of a pair of used fender supports that I was bidding on some time ago (can't remember if it was from a Camaro or Bird though). Didn't win, but I'm pretty sure that the photo shows the prescense of the elusive "5th shield".
I kept forgetting to check my 69 but I finally did last night. I have splash shields on both sides of my fender extensions. I also have an old one that I took off my parts car. I'll post some pics tonight if I remember.
So.....maybe we should consider a 6th splash shield instead of just 5. This may be one of those parts that the plant randomly did not put on or only put one on or put both on. A better guess maybe that they were lost if your car was ever disassembled in its life.
I have attached pictures to explain what I have on my 69. For each side, there is a small splash shield stapled to a bracket. The bracket is then mounted with the fender extension brace. The bolts first go through the bracket, then through the extension brace. I measured the extra piece that I have and it is roughly 2.5" wide by 3.5" long. There is also one corner cut off from each piece. Both of these shields look to fill the gap between the frame and inner fender. Basically an extension of the "3rd and 4th" splash shields where they do not reach far enough back. Does anyone have this "5th" shield? What size is it? I wonder if you are supposed to cut it in half to use for both sides?

Yes, that's it. And the 2 brackets that support it.
