DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS WILL WORK ON MY 68 3FITTY PONTIAC. 1981 Oldsmobile / Buick / Pontiac 5.0 Distributor Item number: 250055161462 ON EBAY. I HAVE A POINTS DISTRIBUTOR AT PRESENT. ARE THOSE 80'S FACTORY DISTRIBUTORS ANY GOOD.? I KNOW THE MSD WOULD BE GREAT, BUT I DONT KNOW IF I WANT TO SPEND THAT MUCH COIN IF THE 80-'S HEI WILL WORK FINE. THIS IS NOT A HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE.
If it's for a Pontiac 301, it will work. If it's for a Chevy 305 that happened to be in a Pontiac, it's intended to spin in the wrong direction for a Pontiac.
That first one is a 'NO GO'. The one in Rick's post is OK but this one is a little better: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=250040491956&rd=1,1
If you want that one, check seller's other items and he has one relisted.
I've got two brand new aftermarket HEIs on the bench at home (remember my testing thread on these last month?) They work fine with a Pontiac 350 or 400.
I'll gladly sell you one for less than they cost on Ebay last month. Need to clear the bench for new projects. I'll post pics and links tonight.

Experimented with both of these last month, as well as the remanufactured original HEI from the early '70s Pontiacs that you can purchase through NAPA and other parts stores. (See HEI thread here from last month).
I personally did not see or feel any difference in the three, although the prices ranged from 50-180 dollars. You can adjust the vacuum on the aftermarket models.

I earlier posted the actual buy pages off My Ebay, but someone pointed out that they showed my buying info, bank info and other links, so I had to pull that post. Sorry!

WOW Look at that guys feedback. Over 8K without a single negitive. He must be a saint! I'm noticing something about that last one's auction pictures. The module looks like the one that comes with a GM HEI. My aftermarket HEI has a computer board in place of the module. I didn't buy mine new. It came with a project car that was built as a racer. I'm wondering which ones have the 'board' type module????
I bet they are too. I thought they might have the computer boards and was surprised that they have the regular electronic module. I wonder which is better and what the differences are between the module type and the board type. When we had the discussion I brought up that my computer board type had a 'clicking' when you first powered it up and the module type didn't. I was wondering if anyone else has the board type and if their's clicks. Sorry if I'm getting too far off topic. Still trying to peg down which one works the best. The one I have I got second hand and I'm wondering how good it is comparitively.
Ah Ha! We've scared out our skervy competition, Bjorn! I could feel the breath and the footsteps pounding up from behind. We will not run. We will turn and fight! Take that! I'm over 5K in a wink of an eye.
Guess you all figured out that we watched Pirates II this weekend on DVD....TWICE!! I do love the feisty young lady...
Drew, let me know when the HEI arrives so I can scratch it off my list of Things To Do. Should be there by Wednesday. Oh hell, did I include the instructions? ......yes I did.
Not that you need the instructions my friend. But lets talk a bit before you do the swap. Call or PM me when you are ready: 931-378-2060.

I certainly will! It's gonna be a couple weeks before I'm ready....motor is coming out this weekend so I can clean it out and replace rod and main bearings.....Grrrrrrr.
May throw in a set of forged rods while I have it open....
Drew, my son is down there in San Angelo going through a sneaky-pete Air Force class this month. He says it is HOT down there right now! Merry Christmas!

Hey does anyone still have any of these for sale? I am not sure what HEI is on my bird now but having carb issues and had some bad plug wires replaced as well and would like to just replace it along with the new carb I just bought. Not sure if is was for a chevy and could be wrong parts. How would it effect my car if the HEI was for a chevy and was roatating in the wrong direction? would it even work at all?
