I fell stupid for having to ask this question but I have heard so many different things on exactly what protecto plate was, Could someone please clear this up for me. Will it realy make the value of the car worth more? Thanks for any help

It's a piece of the car's documentation package as delivered by the dealer. It's a warranty processing data plate with the original owner's name and address, as well as major options found on the car including trim and paint.
Having the Protect-o-plate is a plus if your car is totally correct, low mileage, or high/rare optioned. It's otherwise a novelty piece from the car's past. After 40 years it's not likely you'd be able to look up the former owner at the same address to ask about the car, but I suppose it could happen.

The dealer's service department would put the plate in a holder and use it to emboss a block in the service order. I just looked at my old receipts and found one of my warentee repairs that has my Protecto Plate image on it.
On that order (7/69) they replaced a cracked steering wheel (sound familiar), new top switch (sound familiar), fixed the AC (the worse part of the car since I bought it), fixed a leak at the windshield to convert top (sound familiar), and removed a couple door shims to fix a door rattle (they said that was a common fix because the factory put too many in).
I always thought it was something that was purchased extra. I haven't ever seen it on an invoice so I don't know what made me think it was purchased extra.........
When people sold/traded in their cars they probably were removed them because the had their name on them. Look at the last sentance on the "Important" note on the folder Jim posted.
