I'm in the process of putting my front end back together and I do not want to do it twice (Those control arm bushings are a real b***h!!) So, I have two questions:
What is the best/easiest way to drop the front end a couple of inches?
What disc brake convesion kit would you guys recommend? Are the $300 jobs on ebay worth it or are they junk?
There should be some discbrake-kits, that have a '2 inch dropped spindles' -meaning (If I understand it right) that the spindle is actually 2 inches raised, -making the front drop downwards...
The best way to lower the front end is to either cut a coil off of your stock springs or replace them with the Hitchkis lowering springs. I've heard many times that the drop spindles mess with the geometry of the front end and are not recommended.
Hotchkis springs are the way to go. Or you can visit David Pozzi's website and do some research on coil springs. You can buy a stock replacement (for a different car) cut 2 coils off and you have the same spring you'd get from Hotchkis.
As for disc brakes, it depends....what size wheels are you planning to run? If you are going to run atleast 16 inch wheels you can do the LS1 front disc conversion.
Wheel size is most important. I have 15in wheels and i put a kit from http://www.rightstuffdetailing.com/. fit great and works great. it was too expensive either.
I was just over on David Possi's site and evidently there are problems with the drop spindle arrangements on our first gens. It was under the suspension topic if anyone was interested.
