I'm pretty much done looking for my short or whatever is wrong with my wiring in my car. I'm about ready to hand the car over to a professional to get it fixed. What should I expect to pay for something like this? Just wanting to see if they are going to try and rip me off.
Ok lets start out with all the issues I have found.
-Brights are always on, replaced switch. -Fuel guage always reads empty. -No dummy lights are working.
Facts
-Ignition lock on the column is sloppy and the key can be removed while in the on position, if you do not make sure the cylinder is in the lock position it will drain the battery. -Someone had an alarm in the car at one time, the wiring has been altered but from what I can tell only splices which have been removed. -The only fuse not installed is the lighter fuse.
I can tell you that the fuel guage is not bad ,if it is it reads full. Sounds to me like some grounding problem, prob. behind the dash ,( is my guess,)....is the dash curcuit good...? Bjorn
I checked out the ground and it seems firm. This is of course on the right side near the lighter, if there is another ground maybe its off? I should pull dash probably. It acts like it has no juice yet everything is connected.
I finally got some kick panels and installed the drivers side one and still have a small tiny leak. But its a small leak and i'm very happy, cleaned up good got some off ebay for 70 bucks.
The car is shaping up, which is of course a great thing.
You may want to check the connections behind the dash , the circuit board on mine was bad , some of the tabs back there were really bad...bought a new circuit board from Ames , think it was in the range of $50-80... Gald to hear those kick panels are shaping up, at least one side , huh..?So soon you`ll have it non-leaking..? Bjorn
