Don't remove the belt! Bad idea! I had my ps lose fluid during a 2 hour race and almost couldn't catch a slide when I got tapped going into a corner.
If you're worried about stability put more caster in. I doubt that you'd have problems, but I'll send you a wide-ratio box in exchange for the WS6 box if you want!
This box would probably be perfect for high speed. Faster ratio as wheel turns more (so slower ratio more small movements), plenty of "feel." Of course good luck finding one.

I just check a reference and that's exactly the 69 numbers. And it says all the Birds had them(variable ratio). EDIT It says all the 69 Camaros had them.
That's the box that I have on my '69 and felt it worked very nicely all the way up into the nether regions of the speedo - a least a dozen spurts over the 150 mark.
I was much more concerned about the amount of front end lift! No spoilers!
My TA has all the spoilers and it feels like it's floating on air over 100. And I don't feel that much difference in the steering between the 69 variable and the 79 WS6.
Yes, true the ratios are the same, but I think it the later box would be better because of the higher effort (quite a bit higher). On my car the stock steering effort is way too assisted.
You get used to it. I have to relearn every spring. After a half an hour I'm ready for anything. No matter what box you put in there it's going to be a shocker when you switch from a modern car.
My old 68 had M/S with A/T. Liked the feel for street/strip. The 67 has P/S and 4 spd. Nice for the street..one hand steer'n while shift'n gears. Now that i think about it, will be shift'n the new 68 at the track...duh.
