Anyone ever put one in? I have visited Monster transmission and it appears they have a universal kit for 700 and 200. I am partial to the 2004r because it has the correct bolt pattern.
I haven't put one in, but I've looked into it. I've been told that the 700 only bolts up to Chevy, not BOP.
There's a guy here in Las Vegas who builds custom 200r4s and says he can make one for up to 1000hp. He does say that along with the tranny, you will need to replace the torque converter (he suggests a 9" racing application if you have over 450hp) and the yoke--high hp can tear up a standard yoke.
I have a 2004-r. You can get an adapter for the 700r4. The 200 does not require a driveshaft change if going from a th350 or st300 2spd. The 700 has slightly lower gearing and more available 'user friendly' mods. I like the higher 4th of the 200 and the fact i didn't have to get a new driveshaft or adapter plate. i wish my speedo gears were as easy to change and I had more choices in governor mods like the 700. Both require crossmember mods. Don't assume the new crossmember will fit perfect to your pontiac with either trans. Maybe it will. Mine didn't.
What did you do to modify your crossmember to make it fit? Who setup or adjusted your TV cable for the trans? Where did you get your trans from? I had an 89 turbo t/a that had a 2004r. It was a 12 sec car in the 1/4, but I went thru four tranny rebuilds.
A 200 is pretty much a breeze to install. I did it a few years back and consider it one of my better moves in life. There are very few modifications needed. The hardest thing may be for the detent cable. Happy motoring.
I used a th400 crossmember also. Elongating the holes wouldn't quite cut it for me. Maybe it's because I have a 6cy. I made a new mount pad and welded it to the crossmember where it needed to be. I bought the trans locally and did the installation and set up myself.
That's a better idea than what I did. I think the bolts coming down from the trans were about halfway into the edge of the crossmember. They haven't come off yet. Of course, the car has been sitting for several months now...
