I was wondering if anyone has a picture of the trunk for a 68 firebird with the space saver tire installed correctly? Is the space saver tires and rim still available? Thanks alot!
I have a magazine article for a 67 Firebird 400 road test. It has a clear picture of the trunk and the space saver tire. I'm pretty sure it is the same set up as a 68. E-mail me (vferrizz@sover.net) your home address and I will mail you a photocopy. As far as reproductions of the space saver tire, I'm not sure. The inflating canisters used freon, which is no longer allowed to be used. I'm looking for one myself.
I just scanned the Firebird space saver spare photo from my 1969 Pontiac Sales Manual. Unfortunately, I'm traveling all week and won't be near this computer. Send me your e-mail address by Friday, and I'll send you a jpeg of the '69 space saver spare.
I have a space saver in my 69 convert., it was bought it after the fact , got a used space saver that Brett located in a junk yard... Note that the location of it is different from Coupe to convert., if you are after 'original' placement.. I tried to order the air canister from Ames and Classic that still have them listed in their catalogs, but now out of stock... You can find them on EBay , but usually pretty high priced for the GM type... I bought one at "but it now' to make sure, but have since learned that basically all car manufacturers used the same can ( so you are not stuck w looking for Firebird or GM) they just put 'their' own decal on, this decal is still available thru Ames , Classic etc, so you can buy Ford, Chrysler etc , change the decal.. And as for space saver , Get from local junk yard , CHEAP, nobody wants them anymore, then place it in trunk , don`t use it...prob. not very safe , since its old, but it looks right ,... then keep a can of "Fix-a-Flat" in your glove box!
