got hood inserts or scoops from year one and am wondering how you install them. There are two tapered prongs with no threads that go in the slots in the hood, that's all. Probably a simple answer, thanks in advance benny

They mount with those thin metal "speed" nuts (usually a 7/16 inch hex head). The thin metal bites into the prongs and cuts threads. I have not checked hardware stores for speed nuts but the only restoration place I know that sells them is Rick's First Generation Camaro.

Thanks salmon38 for the reply. Thought that using those self threading nuts might be the answer. Seen them used in other applications, but am a little concerned having them the only means of securing the scoops. Wouldn't want them to come loose at 100mph. Probably will be o.k. and am worrying about nothing. Thanks benny

If you are afraid of them loosening up - you can "fill" the nuts up first with strip (non-hardening) caulking.

I bought my 'speed nuts' for my hood scoops from Pepboys ( in the 'help section'),I suppose Autozone, NAPA etc all have them..... I also siliconed the joint between scoops and hood, because I had installed under hood insulation , and my scoops would leak, you dont want to trap moisture in there it will rust, if no hood insulation,no problem but if you have insulation ,I`d seal them...check leakage before installing insulation..
