Could anyone please provide me with some high res pictures of correct colored Rally-II-wheels? I got my hands on an original set of these wheels but the color is completely off track.
Now I found on this board the correct color codes for the different grays (for those interested the front side was painted Ditzler´s - later PPG´s - "Non-smudge Aluminium DDL-8568" and Ditzler´s resp. PPG´s "Wheel Cover Charcoal DDL-32947"; the best approach for the rear side was Ditzler´s "1977 Ford Dove Gray #2847"). But these paints don´t existe anymore...
And even if they still would exist I probably wouldn´t have any chance getting my hands on over here in Germany.
To cope the correct color I´m in need of some well taken pictures of these wheels. Of course I have searched the web and have a lot of books where they are posted. But they always differ from one another, most of the time because of bright sunlight.
Not necessary to picture the rear side but I really would appreciate if anyone could post a nice pic here in this forum or - if high resolution - would send it to my email adress: Brandl.Thomas@gmx.net
Thomas, I think that you would be better off with following documented sources of the correct names of the colors by whichever paint manafacturer. All the repro houses sell what is claimed to be the correct colors.
With the picture, I don't think that you can translate the color of the picture into something that will match. As you said, color values will be different in each picture because of light and other factors.
Amervo's right CI and the others sell the cans of the correct colors and also the masking kits which will save you time masking those toght corners. I'd sandblast the rims down and start with a fresh surface.
If they don't, it doesn't mean it can't be done. When I was a shipping clerk we shipped hazardous material all over the world- you just have to pack it and label it correctly. Perhaps Mailboxes Etc. can do it. Sorry Thomas, I can't volunteer, but prehaps another FGF member could.
Thanks to all for your help. Already tried the big part suppliers as CI, Ames, Performance Years, the Paddock and Year One. They all refuse sending these hazardous items to Germany...
Funny thing - it can be done and it´s no pita. For example Rick´s First Generation ships rattle cans overseas without any concern and even without any extra costs. Hirsch shipped me the correct engine´s paint within 2 weeks... As John told the only thing they have to do is to pack and label it correct... Obviously too much work for the big sellers.
Unfortunately, Rick´s and Hirsch´s don´t carry these items... But Gary had a good hint, too: will try to get it shipped from Eastwoods. I think they should know the trick... Already have the masking kit - not hazardous - only need high quality paint.
thanks, that´s very kind! I first will inquiere at Eastwood´s. If they ship I will go this way - it´s the easiest way without any extra work for you. However, if they should refuse then it would be great if I could come back to your offer...
