This State will not allow temp plates in it!...Although, they do not bust balls over them...Any vehicle on the roads in MA MUST be insured and registered no matter if your state requires insurance or not!
The MI temp plates are registered and you need insurance to get them. I'm sure that they would qualify in any state. They just save you a little money because you are only paying for the bracketed time period.
Here is a good one, I have plates (antiqe) 1967,1969,1970 I did not renew my 1969 plate as I had no use for it at the time...I PAID for it , it was still good as far as the experation date on it...And the Registry made a new one for someone else and voided my plate. So I could no longer use it on another vehicle!
Jim, If the police wanted to, They could impond your car with temp plates here as we in Ma do not reconize them as insured and registered...They do not unless you give them a reason to do so.
we also live close to new Hampshire...NH does not even reqire insurance on cars! It is against Ma law to drive any car in MA without insurance...But it is done everyday here.
Here is a better one! I buy 2 new Mercedes Benz from a local dealer every year for me and my wife...Now I bought myselfan SL500..NO WAY did I want to drill a hole in the front bumper of that car for a plate holder! So, I happen to know a way around it as I do work for the RMV sometimes..Well I go to the RMV and apply for a missing /bent front plate, they charge me $15 for a peice of paper that states they are making me a new plate to replace the missing/bent one...I go to pick up my new Sl and the Dealer tells me I can not get a sticker without 2 plates on the car! I explain to them I have the certificate THEY DO NOT CARE ! and refuse me an inspection sticker! now johnnie boy here gets WAY upset after dropping more then 150K the day prior and i start arguing with the service manager he refuses me the sticker of inspection ON A BRAND NEW CAR! That I just bought from them...I explain to him, what if I hit a tree or pole dead on and the plate was gone, How do I buy a new car from you withonly one plate? He still refuses....I then went to the showroom and interuped the Sales Mgr in his meeting and told him to get a sticker on my car ASAP...He did. Now everytime I drive by a police car they pull me over for no front plate...I show them I work with them and that i have the certificate for a plate to be made (BTW it takes 6 weeks to 6 months to do this) I did eventually drill those holes and put a front plate on it as it was less trouble!
It's fun to see the mules on the road and guess what they are. Chrysler and GM engineering facilities are right here in the area, I often see cars in extensive body mask to camoflage the body lines, and they don't have any badging. If you have a camera handy, they're not hard to photograph. Sometimes these cars are years ahead of release.
I also have friends, customers and relatives who are high level Chrysler engineers and bring home test vehicles that will never be sold in the U.S. or are months before release and are undergoing real-world testing.
I was fortunate to get my "authentic year" 1969 plate registered to my car when it was a permanent registration. So for the $30, my plate does not expire unless I sell the car.

Still my favorite engineering/experimental car: 1970 AMX/3, with 1970 manufacturer plates. Only 7 ever built, none ever marketed. 390 mid-engine. It was driven by my grandma and grandpa's next door neighbor, who was an AMC engineer. I was 6 when I rode in this car. It was quite a car.
Richard Teague bought this one, and it's now in the San Diego auto museum.

Getting back to Insurance here in Ma, We MUST pay for uninsured motorist insurance, That is for people that are driving around without insuring their car!
We do, too, but it doesn't do much for the insured owner. Years ago, I was broadsided by an unlicensed, uninsured 15 year old and my car was damaged, because I did not have collision insurance I had to pay for repairs even though the illegal driver was 100% at fault.

one more...I pay for PIP personal Injury protection on all my vehicles (mandatory) That includes my Harley Davidson...But the law states you can not use PIP on a motorcycle but you still MUST pay for it!
IF I bought a car outside Texas, and drive it thru Ma., ,on my way back I DO have insurance because Texas insurance covers another "buy" for 30 days after the purchase...just have to carry ins. papers , which you should anyway... paper tags or no paper tags...how would ma cops do with that...by the way I`ll be in Foxboro and Quincy 26th to 29th this mo...
well Bjorn, The reason ma does not reconize temp tags is most of them are not insured...As I stated to Jim, If you are legaly registered and insured then I can see no problem...Just be aware they will stop you...AND good point always have insurance coverage on the vehicle and proof you have it WITH you when traveling...Hey I hope you call or stop by when you are here in MA.
John , really doubt I get much time....going to visit a friend in Foxboro to go over some land and check out what I can design for him , he wants a few condos...on my way back `ll spend the night in Quincy with other old friends , a very hectic trip.... unless you live between Foxboro and Quincy...I doubt there will be much time for a visit...tried to see if I could visit Erich Heinrich from the L-list while there, he`s 20 minutes from Quincy in Milton, owns a 67 400 coupe, but he`s out of town til the afternoon after I leave... you know him?
how far away are you? I`ll be going up to Quincy the 28th some time, not sure if my buddy in Foxboro will drive me or if my buddy in Quincy will pick me up ,or if I take the bus... oh and if you`re close thn to Milton , I should intro you to Erich ,he`s complaining about never meeting anyone from fgf... he`s also a big BMW racer ,club racing..
I am 10-12 min away from Boston (downtown) traffic related of course. I live in Lynn just north of Boston...Quincy is just south of Boston...I can help you with rides either or any way, Just let me know. I would love to meet you and Erich.
well, John if you are not busy , I am willing to "risk my life" in the hands of a stranger! lol
John ,my Foxboro friend, and Les my Quincy friend hevent decided on what to do yet ,re my transport up to Quincy....2.5 yrs ago I was up there with both ,but we were boating down south...
but if you want to we could maybe meet up for lnch or such , maybe on my way to Quincy? I wonder if the guy I met up in Quincy last time (from fgf) is still there too, he had a 68 coupe ,was a Boston cop fgf name fwpd3209 , but he hasnt posted since 04... ...and he IS from Texas, from Bedford a little town between Ft Worth and Dallas , I bouht my car in Bedford! small world... oh and Erich I can get you his email...probably best way...we`ve talked on email and I see him on the L - list ,but never met in person..
That's the photo that had led me to believe years ago that the lower baffle/air dam is body color. Over on the List, everyone insisted that the part is always black. When I replaced mine, I finally went with the consensus and painted mine black.
Jim 2002, That sure looks like the same car, I went and looked at the poster again and it looks like the lower baffel pan is painted black in the poster...I always thought and have seen original pans black in color But that one you pointed out is body color,..I think the car looks better with white line tires. your thoughts anyone?

Guess he panted it body color, it should be black.... re the redlines , I always thought they were a real "Pontiac" look....always loved them...especially on someone elses car...
but still, today I prefer the white letters,at least on my car... no idea why ,but you do change your mind sometimes...
Guess he panted it body color, it should be black....
The photo that I'm refering to is the '68 Pontiac brochure in my earlier post Bjorn. Perhaps it's reflection or something but it sure looks body color in Pontiac's own picture.
Jim 2002..Oh to me no question its white (body color)in the picture you provided...Maybe they had a new employee from Chrysler on that day, no one can ever explain the things they did!
