How do you get this thing out? I pulled the motor and trans out of my 68 vert this weekend. I had hoped to pull both out bolted together but I couldnt get the [censored] cross member out. It is sandwiched between the top of the frame and the floor pans. In addition there is a pocket in the frame that prevents it from being moved too far in any direction so it will drop. I need to get it out so I can elongate the holes as suggested by smitty2k for the new 700R4 that is going in. Help!!!!
OK The floor pans sag a little over time. Mostly because of people with 'big feet' in the back seat. Another reason the clearance gets tight is the shrinking original rubber subframe mounts. Take a big hammer(rubber if you got it) and force one end of the cross member back and the other forward. It will wedge up against the floor pans a little. The floor pans will 'give' and the cross member will come out. It's a mixture of thinking and brute force. Not too much of either.
What Jim said. I took mine out this spring and had the same dilemna but creative thinking and a metal motivater got the job done

I had to loosen the frame mounts and jack the car up to get mine out with old mounts. After putting in new mounts, I can get it out with a little persuation(sp?).
Mine goes in and out easier since I replaced the body mounts. I had to beat the crap out of it to get it out with the old mounts. Now I just have to wack it a little with my hand.
It'll come out with quite a few swings of a big rubber hammer. If I remember correctly, I start by hammering the drivers side forward toward the front, then cross over and hammer the passenger side to the rear. It slowly but surely wedges itself out. Keep an eye on brake lines and other stuff so you don't damage by accident.

take the bolts out and slide it to one side. i have bad floors and still got mine out. and my body bushings are shot as well. if you slide it to one side the other side will clear the frame and you can pull it out. it may take the BFH to slide it over enough but it will work with no problem!!
