Is there anyone who lives near the Outer Banks of North Carolina who could check out a 68'convertible 400 for me? I would gladly pay your gas money and buy you a cold lunch beer if you save me a 7 hour airplane ride...
Erich, I know where there is a numbers matching 68 400 convertible that's a real beauty. I wanted it but I'm too cheap to pay for it! The guy is firm at $25000. Maybe you could talk him down a little. My $15K wasn't going to buy it. I was thinking about keeping this to myself with the hope that he will come way down in price if I wait long enough. Now, I'm thinking, if I can help you and the seller at the same time, I'll get double good Karma! If you are interested we can discuss it here.
YT car. 7 year old paint job. Done pro. I would seriously recommend a PHS. I didn't get one. When I saw the YT, and with the owners claim of 400 car, I was fairly certain it's a real 400 car. For that kind of money the buyer should buy the PHS first.
Digital cameras are like a third eye. No need to crawl under the car. Just stick the camera under and 'click'. Here's a pic I took while inspecting. Nice solid underbody.
LOL It's truely a small world! According to the seller, Vikki(Yellowbird) has found a buyer in Australia for this car. The deal is commencing along. He says that no money has changed hands as of yet. Well, I tried to pass it along. I had no idea Vikki had a deal already going on it.
Since the deal is already going along I'll let some more info out. The most curious thing is that the guy was sure it was a 400 car AND he was sure it had the original nose. It's not a 400 nose. I saw the YT but not the VIN on the block.
Another curious thing was it had the air conditioning interior parts but not on the firewall. I wonder, is that why Vikki placed the want ad for the AC parts for a 68?
VIN is on the block. It matches. Hockey sticks are missing off the nose, along with bumper emblem (replacement bumper). Minor stuff.
Have the PHS, it's an original 400 A/C car. It just needs the A/C parts restored. All the underdash ducting and controls are there. Jim, did you notice the heater hoses running through the heater box cover? It's the non-AC cover fitted to an A/C car.
I didn't know you were looking at it, Jim, until I went up there.

I went there right away when it was listed. First one to look. I pointed out the AC parts missing to the seller. He said, "I learned something". I offered him the $15K I had with me. He said that his dad wouldn't let it go for anything less than 25K. To me, it wasn't worth that. If it would have been completely restored I would have gave him $25. I would have had to do a lot of work to get it where I would want it to be. Add all the AC, R & R the subframe, clean all that goop off the bottom, fix the nose, fix the wheels, I liked the 'his and hers' shifter but it would have to go for the car to be worth the big money. I'm always looking for killer deals and I thought that $25 was just a fair deal. I was hoping that 15K in cash would do the talking, the seller wasn't listening to the money talk! With the auction the way it was it should have been the bidders(me) car at 15. I wasn't surprised when he ended it at the last minute. Not fair but what on eBay is? You have a buyer in Australia? Is it a member?
I didn't buy the car myself, I went to document and inspect it for another FGFer. I was there on Tuesday.
The seller erred in failing to set his reserve price at auction start, and eBay did not respond to his request to add a reserve (you can't, once the auction started). So he cancelled the auction a couple of days before the scheduled end. If it hadn't sold right away, he'd have relisted with a reserve.
He said he learned more about the car in a week than all the time he's owned it.
Yes, to be a top $$ car it needs a few parts put back on and a few taken off, at least we agree it's a worthy car!

Yes, a nice car for sure. That seller is dumb like a fox. I told him about the problem about not having a reserve and he said that it wasn't a problem. He assured me that he knew exactly how eBay works. He said, "That's just the opening bid and it will go higher". That is a direct quote. It looks like he knows all the 'ins and outs'.
The owner did say that his son knows all about that stuff...I talked to the owner, not the son. Anyhow, buyer and seller came to an agreement, so the eBay issue is moot.

I don't represent or misrepresent who I am or what I am doing; I was merely inspecting a car on behalf of another. Not the first time I've done that, nor will it be the last.
I don't need to fabricate anything to look at, buy, or sell a car.

How is saying you are an international auto broker looking at car for someone in Australia fit with that???? Tell it like it is....
Jim, I do not know or care what you were told. I know what I said and did, and I made no such representation. He was already in communication with the buyer before I entered the scene.

Seller agreed on the potential bidders/now buyers terms. Vik documented the car. If the seller stated something, only Vik the seller know what was stated. To arbitrarily facilitate unknown third party statements is hearsay.
What the seller states now is irrelevant. If I met someone from here shipping my car that I sold to somewhere else other than the USA, I, or anyone could make the statement "international auto broker". Hell, the seller could have loosely used the term. Whether is was used or not is irrelevant.
Car is sold, what is the actual problem?

Yep. Except he said that I knew this other buyer that's an international broker. Vikki must have said she knew me. I didn't try to tell him she wasn't. I just assumed that she really was. I also assumed the buyer was actually in Australia. I was curious.
Thanks for the lead, Jim! I had actually talked to that guy a bunch of times and I was about to hop on a JetBlue to Detroit when he told me that he would not take less than 25k. I decided that I could not handle the Teal on Teal for 25k. The one that I am really interested in now is:
You are upset at what? Who wronged you and why are you on everyone that has something to do with Ebay?
It is a done deal, lick your wounds and get over it.
I'm not upset. Upset at what? I already said I wouldn't pay what the seller was asking. As you can see if you read the thread that I offered the lead up before I even knew that anyone else was involved. John piped in that he wanted it too. So I decided to call the seller to verify what he was willing to sell it for. He's says, and I quote, "Your pal Vikki, the international auto broker, is arranging the bank wire and shipping of the car to Australia". It wasn't what I was expecting to hear. He also said that the car wasn't sold yet. He said that he was waiting for Vikki to pony up the cash into his bank account. I'm not mad about it. Why should I be? I think it's funny about the Australia thing. Somebody is telling some whoppers. Like they say, "Be all you can be"! Whatever it takes to swing the deal I guess. LOL

No problem. Just trying to help. That green one is pricey. Kill Devil Hills with a 666 in the number???? Maybe you should send an exorcist with the appraiser.
Jim, as you have no idea what you are talking about and are misrepresenting a private transaction in public, I'm going to remove my posts regarding this subject. I request you do the same, so Erich can have his post back.
Yes, the buyer is outside the U.S. If my role must have a label, it would be "facilitator". As none of this is your concern, please butt out. You didn't want to buy the car at the price, so why are you so interested now?

I would expect nothing less from an international woman of mystery. Everybody can guess what you said. That is 'Shaggadelic Baby'!
So, again, what is the problem? What does Vik have to prove to you or anyone else? If the buyer is not Austrailian, so what? You didn't ante up Jim, and now your bitter. A fast nickle beat a slow dime. You wanted the car, but dragged your feet (assumption)
I suggest some fresh air and sunlight.

I'm sure it's just because of the high price, but that green '68 vert has been for sale for quite some time now. I recall seeing it for sale last September when I was seriously looking.
