Anyone interested in working up a get together? The U.S. is real big and I understand not everyone could bring their Birds, but it would be a really great opportunity to get as many people from the list at one polled and agreed state and town. Some can bring their Birds, and some could just fly in.
Since I am a really good writer when inspired, and with the help of many ohters, I would submit the condensed version with quality pictures to High Performance Pontiac, Pontiac Enthusiast and other Pontiac geared publications. The GTO crowd gets way more attention than Firebirds. I think it is time we should step up and conclude the possibilty of past dues and show off some of the work and effort all of us have toiled over for the Birds.
Since I am sporatic with my work schedule and have limited drive, I would not necessarily organize, but would be there and would write an excellent article and take pictures. As well, I have not run it past Vik, but she takes excellent pictures as well and is adept at what readers would want to see.
Just a thought, open to many variances and opinions. Just believe between the two boards and the membership, we could make it happen.

Maybe a stop along the HotRod Power Tour this summer.

I know that Andy here in town has been pushing for the same thing....he and Brett L. have taked about a Vegas meet up in the future.... Problem is going to be distance for many...I work quite a bit ,not sure I can take the bird on a 3 day trip, a stay ,3 days back at least for a year...you`d need to use up vacation time for this.. but it would be fun....a "national" FGF meet so to speak...its going to be far for everyone except the ones living close to the center of US...Kansas? Cant say I would appear for 100% , but very interested... of course the further south this would be ,the more time of the year we have opportunity to do it! hint,hint...
( Andy keeps pushing for a small HALF meet in southern France too...LOL, would be nice to cruise the lower Alps in these , BUT ,expensive to ship the cars, plus gas at $5.50 /gal kills that idea, esp with 12-15 mpg)
Good idea Tom! let us know more of your thoughts about this 'meet'! Evidently you`ve put some thought to it...
also , from many places you could get some groups travelling, it would stir some up along the roads too, here and there 4,5 maybe 8 or 10 Birds travelling down the road together...so far I think only HALF and MOFO have done something like that , and only on a local scale..
Or we could do a series of submeets...eastern, central, western U.S. plus anyone from Canada who could make it down, get as many bodies and cars as possible to each, photo document and write about each meet, and then we'd have a better representation for a magazine spread although not the personal nationwide meet and greet that I'd enjoy.
On second thought, I like Tom's idea better. Geographical center of the U.S., anyone? It would still be a reasonable trip for several of the Canadian members as well.

tried to google "geografical center of US" but so far no luck.... I just drove thru the geografical ctr of France last summer, they have a marker of it as it straddles the freeway, see attached...but I`ll try to see if I can find out where it would be in US
tried to google "geografical center of US" but so far no luck....
Try "geographic". The geographic center of the contiguous 48 is in Kansas. I can't recall where the center of the 50 is but Alaska and Hawaii would likely pull it way west.

LOL, Yes, my Swedish gets in the way sometimes...well, kansas it is...that marker could be photographed with a BUNCH of Firebirds.... they way they determined the point is kinda weird, "balancing a ball on a cutout"? I`d think you would draw a lot of cross lines over a map from tips of Washington to tip of (Keyes)Florida to Maine to Baja California etc and find the centerpoint? but what Do I know?
but Lebanon, Kansas., sounds like the point, or close to it...now, how far IS that from everyone?
I live a couple hours east of that point. I've driven by the turnoff on 36 highway many times, but have never gone up there. If you guys want to go to Lebanon, I'd be in.
Bjorn, I'd be willing to bet you a hundred bucks there is not a motel in Lebanon available for everyone. That's not a very heavily populated area
Well if its close to the summer, we always have saratoga to fall back on. maybe this year we can have a tent party the night before. the grounds there were beautiful. The only problem is i know its far for just about everybody.
Maybe pick 4 or 5 places throughout the US and have whomever take pictures at each of the events and submit them with a rundown of the events and high points.
That way, we can cover all bases throughout and really show the Pontiac community Firebird unity.
The European and other international theatres would be a hard sell..very limited, but would also be a great addition.

I know ,thats why I posted that ,it didnt come across very "touristy" on the map.... 4, 5 "sub" meets is also a great idea....a NW, SW, E, S, N, SE etc....we could do a Louisiana,Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico Arkansas or similar
Maybe a respectful parade of FGFs to White Chapel Cemetery, where John Z is buried...circling the fountain for a photo shoot.
hey ,great idea! that would be a very nice photo op.... Where is that located?
ahh ,looked it up, in Troy, Mi.
think that will have to be a trip/meet for you guys up north! but a nice photo op....maybe even a few of you by the head stone!?? and a headline to this effect: " Firebird lovers take a pilgrimage to John Z`s grave"

I would be all for the geographical center. Probably be somewhere close to me. But to be fair, it would probably need to be more like a "center of gravity'. IOW, find out who would be willing to make a commitment to going and then find the center point in relation to that. Or, just pick a place where you think most people might be more inclined to make the trip and stick with it.
Aren't we already having a Firebird/TA National meet in Dayton Ohio every August. I have been there as a spectator and it is a great time. Plenty of good accommdations too. More of us = better time. Just a thought.
I'd like to meet you guys. I'll definately be at Norwalk. I don't know whether the bird will be ready for a 500 mile trip by then, but that's the plan today.
Don't mean to be a buzz kill but doesn't this already happen? I mean whenever a big show comes around my area, like Hot August Nights in Reno, every bird owner I know tries to get together so we can have a meet and greet. I know there's a good sized show near So Cal, Route 66 show I think. I'd be willing to bet everyone down there does the same. It is an awesome idea for one national gtg but I don't think it's practical for most people. I'll be there after the divorce(meant to be sarcastic, you'd have to know my wife).
