I just got a 69 shifter assembly off Ebay. It's fairly rusty but the shifter moves fine and it's complete. I'm thinking of using Eastwood's Rust Dissolver and then their Tin-Zinc plating kit to refinish it. Does this seem like a good plan or am I missing something that would not let me do this?

Is that the battery operated kit? Not sure there'd be enough juice to plate a shifter. Maybe just a fastener. Also not sure plating will stick to the existing chrome, if that's what's on there now. You might want to send it out for rechroming.

It's the battery operated one. I was just thinking of plating the bare metal of the shifter housing itself. Not trying to plate the shifter rod. I have to see how it comes apart after I get it first.

Take lots of pictures. I rebuilt one once. It's not too bad. Use lots of white lithium grease. It makes a difference.
