I just replaced the driver side door hinges and have come to the conclusion that there is a secret to adjusting the hinges. Do I need to remove the front fender? Thanks in advance.
I would also be interested if anyone has an easy way to line up doors and fenders. Seems to me you have to line up the door first to get the correct gap from the fixed body and then shim out the front fender to the same gap so everything is even. I'm not sure tho. Just makes sense to me.
Your quarter panels aren't gonna move, you line your door up to the quarters, adjust your hinges for up and down movement to get the correct gap along bottom and back and forth to get gap right with quarters. then line up fenders to doors. and adjust fenders for proper gap for hood. it's time consuming.
when i changed my hinges, i did the top one first then the bottom one. that way , the door never came all the way off the car. i used a floor jack with a folded towel on it to hold door in place, while i changed them. also watch for body shims between hinge and body.
