I have a 68 350 HO convertible which I bought restored with a brand new set of BFG radial TA's (205/70R14's). The tires have less than 500 miles on them and are great, but I have always loved the look of redlines.
I'm interested in buying a set of redline radials but don't want to take a total loss on my current tires.
I know I could put them for sale in the paper, online, etc. but was curious if tire retailers ever buy (slightly) used tires? (trade ins?).
Thanks, I really appreciate this site - I learn something new about my car almost every time I visit.
You have a few options that I would consider if it were me... But for liability reason, I doubt you'd find a dealer who would and or could take the tires for resale, other than a used tire store, and there you'd be lucky to get offered $25 0 $50 each. (Better off selling them outright)
One, get another set of wheels for "show" and put the Red Lines on them, and then you can chenge the wholle look (and feel) of the car in under an hour.
Two, there are some manufactures who make Radial Red Lines, so you wouldn't have to give up safety for looks.
Three, there are a few places that will take a black wall tire (modern Tire) and trim a groove into the side, and apply a special paint/dye for the Red Line... Depending on the tire (side wall lettering) you get the best of both worlds!
But if it were me, I'd have two sets of tires and wheels, one for show, and one for go... best of both worlds...
(actually, I'd have several sets, and change it up weekly! Lol... but that's just me!)
