You guys need to experience the great planes sunrises or sunsets. Or a sunrise or sunset over the Great Lakes, nothing like it. I love the mountains for other reasons. Have seen the sunrises and sets both places. I thought it was common knowledge that they are prettier on the planes?
I dont Jim, I think that's a matter of opinion. The most beautiful sinrise I ever saw was at 12K feet a top a volcano in Hawaii. You just dont get that on the plains.
I'm sure everything is nicer in Hawaii! You would get the full panorama due to the surrounding ocean. Unless you are on the highest point in a mountain range there are usually peaks that block some of the sunrise or sunset. Nothing to block them on the plains or on an island.

Sunrise heading east out of the Black Hills of SD. Sunset on South Bass Island (Put In Bay) overlooking Lake Erie. You can even see the silhouette of the cooling towers of Davis-Besse.
Sunrises or sunsets in SE asia or the tropics can be great, but they only last a few minutes. Love the sunsets here on the West Coast over the Gulf Islands..and they last forever.
And I'm fond of the panoramic sunset-over-valley at our place up north. And of those from the Canadian side of Lake Huron, up on the bluffs. And the flatland sunsets on South Padre.
I'm just glad to be able to see and enjoy them.

One of the nicest sundown views I've seen was from on top of the mountain at Whistler-Blackcomb in BC a few years ago. Man, you can almost see California from up there I swear.

have to agree with you on the Put-in-Bay sunset if6were9. Here is a shot from our bedroom deck.
I must say some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets I've ever seen were in the Caribbean (Jost Van Dyke, St. Thomas, Virgin Gorda and the Gulf of Mexico/Cancun
I like to watch the sunrise over a landscape with a few peaks and valleys personally...
Not great or spectacular shots... but it did put a smile on my face to be cruising my bird watching the sun rise...
Here's a different sort of Sunset, where the color was picked up in thousands of beach chairs (Pattaya, Thailand)
Firebob, I've seen a few from the top of Blackcomb, and on the Howe Sound on the way back. Used to drive my 72 Impala Convert up there skiiing in the late spring and drop the top on the way down thru the sound, made for one awesome day!
I used to go to Put In Bay every year, there are some beautiful sunsets there. Also, when I was in the Army on leave in Spain the sunrises & sunsets were spectacular on the Mediteranian.

Say G-Whiz, nice shot! That's PIB for ya. I was up there last Labor Day visiting friends who have a cabin. Came out on the ferry in a storm with three to four foot waves. What a boat ride, whee’o. I missed entering the parade around the island, and I didn’t see your ‘bird. Do you keep it on the island?
"Put-In Bay" What a great place!!! I took my boat down there 5 years ago. Unfortunately I don't remember much of the trip with the exception of the trip down and the trip back.

I dig the shot on East Point! Yes, the Bird is on the Island. If I'm not out in the boat I try to make the Sunday parades. Not sure how I missed seeing your Bird you had drive past our house to get to the end of East Point.
